You fellers are quite right in what you say....

Marie, if you're not happy enough with the shine it's because you missed out one stage in the process, it goes....

Wash/Dry -----> Clay ----> Polish ----> Wax

You kind of missed the 'polish' bit which cuts away the microscopic layer of oxidisation on the paint which can dull the finish.

Don't wanna teach granny the obvious but if you're still not happy it's worth thinking about. Personally I think it looks nice  :) And you're right, the polish/wax always goes on and off better after claying  :y

....prepares himself for a slap  ::)  :-*

if you plan for serious polishing you need a machine..

Trust me its worth that investment as you can use it everytime..

And the work times become 1/20 - 1/30 compared to hand..

At the risk of looking like a complete goon this site will show you all you need to know;

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/index.php

Hand polishing is possible but as cem says you may need to enlist the help of little guy shane or risk ending up with biceps like Hulk Hogan  8-)

There are good mail order products available from that forum such as 'menzerna' & 'chemical guys' polishes. Just check out some of the beauties in the gallery  :o

Looks good! What clay bar you using? In my expirience claying is a hell of a lot easier than waxing, I can't believe I'm gonna say this but, you need to use more lube!  ;)

the magiuors (sorry cant spell it)one. Trust me there was loads of lube...... ;D ;D ;D ;) not bad for a first time ever using it. i know for next time though..... hubby told me it wasnt shiney enough for him. >:(
looks a cracking job. I was just wondering weather or not your other half is still able to walk properly with a clay bar where the sun doesn't shine ;D ;D

Does anyone have a simple guide to the highlighted steps?

i.e. For each stage:

  • Purpose
  • Best products
  • Best tools / cloths
  • Method of application (Hand action / tool to use)
  • Things to watch for (weather, make sure it is dry etc.)
Cheers

its a peace of clay that you rub over the car with the lub suppiled to remove all the film off the paint. if you feel your paint work it feels ruff. claying removes the ruffness and makes it feel like glass, makes it easy to ploish and wax the car. i was recommended off here to do it and ill never look back its great.

i would use the maguires cleaning products. i have just started to use them and they are 100% better then the products i was using before and so easy to work with. :)
