Dash Engine Temperature Display

Hi guys, Been having a few problems with the subject item. I drive my 2.0 Miggy for a short while and see the display rise to operating temp (around middle of dial) as it should. Then it suddenly drops to it's lowest (bottom) reading as if it has lost it's electrical feed. Is there any way of putting this right. This sequence can occur several times in a journey and i only worry because if there were an overheat then i might not figure it out until it's done too much damage. Can anyone help? :-?

Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

I think even on the 2l the clocks are electronic etc.

Could be a faulty cts (coolant temp sensor)
Check the wiring to it or replace they're only cheap

Why oh why was there never a V8 Omega????
Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

Is yours the x20xev engine?

It should be (having to think as its mounted different to my calibra i had)

On the opposite end to the cambelt.
You will have the ecu one which has a 2 pin blue plug. then the one for the gauge which will be a single terminal.

I think so (X20XEV??) and therefore i should find it below the windscreen scuttle?
I did here somewhere that a certain part might just need (contact surfaces) cleaning??? :-?

Another common cause if the dash has been out is that its not seated properly.

Stick the palm of you hand on the rev counter, and push back hard (not so hard as to break the thing though ;D)

The dash has been changed by previous owner (when the old one was wired wrong and blew???) so this i can check too, however ALL other dials work perfectly.

It does seem to be the temp gauge or the fuel gauge that play up if not seated
