radio wires
« on: 15 August 2011, 18:01:02 »

Hi, my first question on here so I hope someone might be able to help.
My radio has not worked for a while so I have bought some keys and and removed it today only to find one of the wires burned out and dammage to the rest of the loom. It looks like at some point a traffic master has been inserted in to the loom before the radio and this has shorted causing the problems. The wire that is charcoaled is a red wire marked 12v by the lable on the radio (not the +or-) I am guessing this is the switched 12 from the ignition as haynes has it coming from this direction, however without removing the whole dash I can not find where it goes. Any idea where this is fed from?

Many thanks, Matt

If you have burnt wires, then you will have to inspect each one very carefully along its entire length, as they seldom burn in one place.

If that means dash out, then its dash out I`m afraid

Hi, thanks for the response, it's only one wire so I'd like to know where it goes to then cut it off at the other end, then run a new one through but as yet I am unsure where it terminates

as dont know the year of yours but mine the power line gose behind the dash clocks and into the fuse box, so it would all need to be taken out, as there is a lot of eathing points there, also check the fuse box rear for damage... you dont want to cut wires off and not know how the wire is as it could cause a fire at any time.
