no Tech 2 but did not have car security code with me - I thought I did not need it if original display (after repair) going back in (replacing another screen installed 4 years ago which has gone faulty again).

It is flashing Display Safe - all GID stuff is working but not maps as yet - this happened last time due to gray lead not pushed home I think.

Hopefully I can get this sorted tomorrow - but question is will insertion of 4 digit car pass code cure the Display Safe - I just cannot remember using this code last time i.e. 4 years ago.

The more worrying issue is the black screen on maps - not sure code will sort that one - but one step at a time.

The CID needs pairing with the head unit (with the same car pass).
The black screen menu just needs the setting adjusted with the Tech2

car security code sorted the Display Safe problem so I have a functioning screen in grey, black, orange as normal - but no colour maps - just a black screen showing the Menu and Repeat tabs in black and white. Must be a lead problem unless there is a Tech 2  fix for this.

Edwardmickey - will pm you on this point.

the problem was not the lead but a "vehicle identity issue" and poor knowledge of Tech 2 - maps now working but have lost top line data of screen which is the area that should have notices such as "Navi Inactive" on it - hope to get there in the end.

The successful part of this saga is that I sent the faulty screen to a German company (guy speaks no English whatsoever) on the Monday and it was back repaired by Friday. Shame I could not do this justice with VX dealer fitting screen which it has done for me before but this time they seem to be short of knowledge on this system. They are not charging me as they acknowledge they have wasted a lot of my time and theirs by faulty diagnosis of the issues.

I will have to get onto them again next week. Trouble is I have to leave the car with them.

Go see Kevin Wood (or me, but think he's much closer), dealers really struggle with this sort of thing...
