Park Pilot
« on: 21 August 2011, 11:34:31 »

My 2.6 Elite has park pilot fitted but it doesn't work, or atleast I don't think it does.

I've had a look and it all appears to be wired ok. Someone told me there was a fuse but on looking it's more like a resistor than a fuse. It is a spade type but is a Bosch And when you look in from the top you can see the resistor.

I've looked all around the wiring (well what I can see anyway) but cant see anything wrong. Is there any way of testing the unit??

Yes, it has built in diagnostics, but if you are not hearing anything, I'd suggest speaker is busted.

Try the diags first (it beeps at various times to signify what the fault is), if you don't hear anything, suspect the speaker.

I haven't got TIS handy, somebody will tell you what to short out for diags.

If it turns out that you need a speaker, I have one here. :y

I had the exact same symptoms you describe and it turned out to be the speaker. Test it with any other speaker connected to the wires that come off the ECU and you'll know.

Also, I've heard that the sensors vibrate on activation. I didn't check it, but it's a way to know it there is life in them.

There is a diagnostics procedure in TIS, but for some strange reason it only appears if you pick 2001 MY. It's the last item under Electrical equipment and instruments and it's called Parkpilot. There you'll find article number 00029327 (KTA-1768 entitled "Main Diagnostics check") and 00029326 (KTA-1768 entitled "Checking Procedure - Park Pilot Function Check/Distance Warning").

These two articles don't show under Electrical equipment and instruments > Parkpilot if you choose a context other than Omega 2001.

I forgot it. When we found that it was the speaker we didn't want to wait for the part to come from the factory and took a tweeter from a car that was going the the scrapyard, nulled a capacitor (that apparently made it to sound like a tweeter) and wired it. It's beeping lovely now.

In the roof behind the sun roof. It's a bit of work. You'll have to remove the load compartment cover and the inner panelling on D-Pillar (in that order).

Prior to it, it's advisable to wire a working speaker to the ECU to ensure that the fault is in the speaker.

In an estate, it's above the head lining at the top of the C-Pillar on the passenger side.  :y
