Rear blind not working
« on: 22 August 2011, 22:17:29 »

Got an elite with a rear blind that doesn't want to play ball...

A click can be heard when the button is pressed, but that's it. No movement from the blind whatsoever.  :-/

Can these be fixed, or is it a non-starter?  :-?

Assuming the mechanical side is fine, its usually the motor is knacked.

take it apart & have a look, the worst possible outcome is that you break a blind that doesn't work ........... on the other hand you might be able to fix it.  ;) ;) ;)

Oh I definately intend to break it properly!!  ;D Nothing goes in the bin in my house before being broken down to it's component parts!  ::)

Just wondered if anyone had tackled repairing one before? I can't see anything in the maintenance section...  :-/

Yep, fixable, but in my case it needed new motor and little gear box thing from another with failed blind arms. Heve you tried pulling the blind up by hand? Guessing usually the runners dry out due to the sun, the motor strains the gear box cogs and either one or the other fails.

Golf club to press the button from the back seat while you help the blind up... Find that doesn't work either then pull the entire rear of the interior out go remove the bugger.

Mine was as yours, motor fixed it, after the spring went ping and buggered the cogs so had to fit the gear box as well. Not a 20 min job.  :-X

I had the same problem on my mini facelift Elite - I sourced a second hand complete blind assembly with the motor etc and then removed the rear shelf - was a bit of a pig to remove without scratching or breaking anything - then removed the old blind assembly from the shelf and then fitted the new one - re-fitted the shelf then pressed the button and "clicK" and no blind - that one was breaked as well !!

Incidentally - I had a look at the old unit I removed in the hope of fixing it and when I removed the inspection plate I found out that there is a coiled spring in there to assist in moving the arms and once the cover was off I released the tension on this spring with no chance of re-winding the thing back to what it should be.

Ah, gayboy and I know a story about that. It makes a 20min job into a four hour job ;D

Methinks the rear blind is a tad like the handbrake ... if you don't use it you lose it ....

:(

I use mine a fair bit, and it was well used in France, seems to me that it actually got smoother after a couple of days !!
