Hmmm

Thinking of going up to the lakes in the caravan for hols in August, we are also thinking of going up into Scotland,right up, a lot of people have told me that the mosquitos are rife at that time of year, anyone know if thats true, i should imagine its right due to all the lochs up there, dont fancy been in the caravan if thats right.

Yep, I believe this can be a problem, just stay away from lots of water. kielder can be a bu**er.
PS Mines 36ft long and 12 ft wide. ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though, site opens up again on Sat after the winter shut down, can't wait to get back their for a few peaceful week-ends.

Theres is called a mobile home

Yep, nice, I suppose ours is called a mobile home (or holiday home) as well, gas central heating, double glazed, en suite to the master bedroom, separate shower room with toilet but unfortunately no bath, pantile roof, lounge has free standing furniture, french doors  and we're hoping this year to install a veranda so that we can use them properly. Kitchen has full sized cooker, fridge and washing machine, proper 'home from home', even the dog loves it, probably because she gets a lot more walks there than she does at home.  :)

There are 3 basic type of caravans

biggest are mobile homes, which are permanent residential homes, from companies like Tingdene, Neve Valley and such I remember that NV were aluminium green/white, another make was yellow white and my parents Tingdene is chocolate/cream rendered wood.

Commonly available as double units up to 45x24, or even a quadrupal unit I saw under construction at TIngdene of around 60x20.

NExt down are the static holiday caravans, usualy cheaper made than mobile homes and also smaller - makers like Willerby and PEmberton, usually found in flocks at Brean and Porthcawl.

The final category are touring caravans which are twoed, they are the only ones with suspension and brakes and Swift, Bailey and Lunar are well know makes.

We did just that in 2006, Started at Whitehaven in Cumbria for 3 days, travelled into the lakes daily.  Went up to Turnberry for 3 nights Oban is a beautiful town, travelled up to Duror near to Fort William, midges evident but manageable, we were in a large tent by the way, got some scubba diving done in Loch Linne...  travelled up north east  to Hopeman, near to Elgin, another glorious place on the Whisky Trail :y  We then came down the east coast to Edinburgh and camped at Linlithgow for a few nights...  I can recommend a lovely caravan site at Appin, Duror.. near to Fort William... a nice central location with lots to do in an around...

Don't worry agout the midges too much, Scotland is beautiful with a capital B, the people are very polite, I didn't hear one Scotish child swear once.... VERY RESPECTIBLE.. we WILL visit again VERY VERY SOON....   Broocie can get the kettle on ;D ;D ;D

Tonnes of midges up there. Really gets some people bad and doesnt affect others what so-ever

personally i was affected really badly
