Am finally starting to feel relaxed with my Omega
« on: 28 September 2011, 01:47:14 »

At last my to do list and car needs list has shrunk dramatically,  I was thinking of getting rid of my Saloon to get an Estate Omega, but the Frontera I bought 2 weeks ago is doing the job of the Estate car perfectly! So my Saloon is here for keeps.

I had a MASSIVE string of post it notes stuck to my bedroom wall with everything I wanted to do to the Omega and everything that needed doing, and had look at it twice today when I realised how many things have been crossed off.

And the thing that was worrying me the most, most recently was my gearbox sticking in 3rd a bit if I didn't run through the gears properly 3 times before I drove off from the car being parked up for any amount of time.

I have ordered all the parts for the Gearbox service, and after carefull thought, I bought a new filter.

The 2 sump gaskets and the filter from JPAT including VAT and cheap standard 1st Class Postage cost me a few pennies under £27.
I bought the Dexron 3 oil from Eurocarparts, Carlube brand which has never caused  me any grief in the past, that was £27 for 5.5 litres after a promotional discount.
And I went to my local vauxhall dealer and bought a brand new gearbox sump plug for a few pennies under £7 which I am collecting on Thursday morning.
And I bought a manual pressurised fence sprayer from Ebay through the Argos clearance thingy for £10 minus a few pennies to pump the oil into the car and it even says the litres on it so I can put the right amount in first time round. It is a 6 litre container, So I know I can put the 4.5 litres I need straight in.

£71 roughly is what I have spent and for the first time in a while I am happy to have spent that after being quoted over £200 all in for the same parts from my Vauxhall dealer, and the parts are all Genuine GM I was told on the phone. So very happy.

So providing the weather is good down here on the coast this weekend, my Omega will be off the road having a gearbox service, followed by new fuel filter being fitted, and some fault finding on my I.C.E as the wiring seems to have come loose or maybe I have blown some speakers as I know I managed to blow my subwoofer  ;D

This is the Omega when I went to the beach today:

This is my trusty Frontera that has made it possible for me to keep my Saloon:

Yes, I know, More photo's  ;D ;D ;D

This time only 3 to start with.

Was never a lover of estates... too much of the boy racer in me still (I'm 40 now though)  ::)

But after changing my saloon mig for an estate, I must say, I've found it so handy and wonder how I got by without one, lol.

Still miss the saloon some days though  :-[

My car has now had a BRAND NEW gearbox filter fitted with new ATF Dexron 3 Fluid, and new sump gaskets and sump plug, the only thing that didn't get done today was the gear selector switch being cleaned as we ran out of time. The car drives totally different and the original filter was totally gunked up as was the magnet. And the oil was just yukky!

I used the recommended method from oof for putting the new oil into the gearbox, (Hand Pump Pressurized fence sprayer) except I got mine from the Argos clearance on Ebay for just under £10 delivered and was amazed how well it worked!

So thanks to my best mate coming over today and him doing all the hard work, I now have a very happy, healthy and reliable 2.2 Petrol Omega 2.2 Auto.

My next job from Tuesday onwards is to fit my day running LED lights. My mate and I got the wiring routed and ready, just need to install the LED lights and connect them to my cigarette lighter socket.

 :) :) :) :) :) :)

Not on all cars. However I have wired mine up to the easiest wiring loom I could think of, My car CD Player power loom so that they come on with the ignition and go off with the ignition.  Only thing is they probably wont pass an mot as they are not E marked as mine are cheapies from HK.

But as things were going smoothly for me and my Omega, the Frontera blew both the master and slave cylinder and the flexi pipe at the front of my Omega is knackered so my Omega is very very loud and quite thirsty at the moment.

So .. if they are bright enough to be effective during the day .. they will BLIND everyone coming towards you at night.

That is why they are DESIGNED to turn OFF when the normal car lights are put on.

and why, IMHO,  DIY light fitting should be illegal .... you have modified your car to look "pretty" in your eyes,  to the danger of all other road users.

bloody stupid.   :(

Audi's don't turn off with main lights on. And they don't blind anyone, neither do mine as ALL DRL's are the same brightness or slightly darker than the dipped headlights and mine haven't been fitted for looks but for safety!
