rear suspension bushes....
« on: 29 September 2011, 17:22:38 »

being thorough,

can someone point me in the direction of all the parts that may as well be changed at the same time as springs and shocks,  and that are likely to be knackered , or even a little tired, on the rear of an 130K mileage estate that's been used for towing....

i know there's some donutty rubbery things under there, i just don;t know enough to be sure to order the right stuff....

for those that haven't spotted already,  it's having a birthday for the MOT,   all new original shocks, and rear springs (proper MV6 jobs from AndyC)

but money is a finite resource... especially as most of my available finance is tied up in bloody paypal , so i need to be able to pay for it in that form,...

I had these fitted recently, as have other OOF members. I've had no problems.

Under £27 a pair delivered. They don't appear to be set up to take payment by PayPal....

Check the dif blocks to floor pan while you have them undone for spring change, as the guide on here, rarely noticed on Mot afaik but they do degrade and separate, and the back end goes sloppy. It's just a couple of bolts each while supported by the jack, so no biggy to change those at any time once diagnosed.

Donuts, links in the guide, are a separate job to shocks and springs, so that's 3 jobs instead of two. But these are well worth changing and are likely shot by now at those miles. That's it really.

There are other bushes, small round ones on the side of the dif, but you won't get problems with those.

I got my rear donut bushes from the place Paddy mentioned. Seems to be the best and cheapest place for them.  :y

Mine were completely shot at 100k, as Chris will confirm!!  :o ::)

Can't be any more specific than that. But I really would check them first. It's a very simple job, and they may well be fine, in which case you'll have waisted money. Not sure where to source new ones. But good second hand is perfectly feasible.
