I need an OMEGA mechanic
« on: 29 September 2011, 20:43:20 »

Hi All
I live in the Sheffield area and am looking for a decent mechanic to keep my 2.5 V6 on the road for a little longer. I think my rear shocker may have gone as when I go over little bumps it sounds like my boot is shutting, but its not. I have taken it to 2 , but both say theres nothing wrong grrrrrrr. Anyone got any recomendations. Thanks Kev

Lets see if we can help you fix the problem first  :y

If you open the boot and bounce on the back, does it make the same noise?

I have to say No. My problem is that when I bounce the back end it seams fine, a little creak is all I hear. When I travel on a fairly flat surface (very difficult in sheffield) everything seams fine and its very smooth. Its as though the little bumps make the most noise. I dont have to go over a pothole to make the noise. I don't profess to know what I am taalking about. I just love my Omega and want to do the best I can without getting ripped off. I don't mind paying if I know the job is being done right. I con man could tell me anything. I'm not mechanicaly useless, just not up to date and dont have the resource anymore.

Sure the noise is actually from the rear as Daz says, my suspect would be front droplinks

It is from the back. I have had the drop links replaced quite recently. I do know its the rear and its the nearside. I do think it is something like the drop link sound, just from the back and a little more like a dull thud. It's as though there may have been a bush in something but the bush has become baggy, not a metal sound, more like the boot lid closing from being only a little open. Got to work now so I will pick up in the morning. Thanks for your help so far I am realy impressed.

Worth taking a look at the rear springs, although not known them to make a noise when snapped.

Rear nearside is also where the exhaust exits so would perhaps be thinking along those lines as well, although noise would perhaps be 'lighter' than a solid clunk?

The shock absorber as well as rear arm would be obvious starting places for the more 'solid' noises.

hi  if this is any help.....my omega does exactly the same thing but it only ever does it if i am coming out of mc.donalds in leagrave luton...no matter how slow i go over the 2 speed humps it always makes a loud bang at the rear as if the boot is going up in the air and the body is parting company with it all...but i have had 2 m.o.t. and has been well inspected and nothing ever found..and it does not do it anywhere else...so i do not go to mc.donalds anymore  ha.ha.

Had a similar sort of problem, the strap had come undone on the spare wheel, and was causing a clunk everytime I went over a bump.

I think I would be checking the exhaust first ;)

I have a similar problem which has appeared since changing the rear shocks/springs and exhaust. I have checked them all several times and cant find anything obviously amiss. It manifests itself on rippled surfaces and small bumps. Not very loud but annoying all the same.Lots of head scratching going on here. :(

I had a noise that was audible in the circumstances you describe. It was dignosed by DLK as a poorly fitted back box.
Hope you get it sorted soon, bloody annoying isn't it ?
