I can take or leave firework displays but I went to Southport Fireworks Championship on Saturday night and some of the displays were amazing. The biggest explosions were shaking the ground

Pretty much the same pete. Havent been to a firework display for many years. When Ruby is a little older no doubt i will start taking her but ill watch them out the window for the time being

I agree Pete, displays these days are usually excellent & you sometimes feel like your on the wrong end of an Arty barrage!
Mind you, on the other side of the coin I hate the morons who come out of the woodwork at this time of year & set off the Bangers in the late evening/early hours, it drives my dogs mad!

I have to say that the best one I have ever seen was in Paris for Bastille Day in 2003.  It was mind-blowingly good and correographed to some classical music.  I have not seen anything like it previously or since.

That said the sound of loud bangs makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and my eyes light up, I love it!

The Spanish love a good firework display and most towns put on(or used to before the crisis!) one or more a year at the fiestas. The displays are enhanced by being in valleys or next to lakes and so on.

One of the best ever was over Mahon Harbour in Minorca.

I think fireworks should only be available for organised displays.

Those poxy little home kits should be banned from the public IMO. They're a bloody nuisance. Scaring pets, the old, annoys the hell out of me, ESP when it goes on into the early hours. Kids messing about. Injurys. Accidents. Ban em!

Wouldnt be so bad if they where proper fireworks. Real boomers. We could get organized, know when their going to be let off, put the pets away and watch. But no, we have to have these pathetic little things going "we fut" every few minutes... break OFF!

hmmm, maybe you wouldn't like the TB firework display...   ...we aim to break most of the rules in the firework code. Starting with the first - alcohol and fireworks don't mix

Nowt wrong with the home kits...used responsibly...ideal with kids too small for a big organised display.  Kept to nov 5th, or nearest weekend, at sensible times.  I too hate them going off at all hours on all dates.

Without any shadow of a doubt .. most impressive fireworks I've ever seen ... Sydney Harbour at New Year .. it's not just the bridge .. they have barges all the way down the river, about 12 IIRC, and they do it all twice .. once at 9:00pm for the kids then again at midnight ...

Don't think I can trump Sydney - but I can certainly recommend New years Eve on the Embankment in London for the same reason. The display from the London Eye is awesome - they too have barges on the river. You can feel the noise in your chest.
Get there early - and allow plenty of time to get home after - it's a long night standing but worth ticking off that list of things to do before you pop it..  without having to go to Sydney - although that's on the list as well

The RMA bonfire night display is not bad either. 

The best display I have every seen was a bonfire night firework spectacular at Alton Towers. 

The French certainly like their fireworks on Bastille day, but I yet to see a display in France to mark the following: 18th June Battle of Waterloo, 26th August Battle of Crecy, 21st October Trafalgar day or the 25th of October for the Battle of Agincourt. As these all involved the French so I can't for the life of me understand why they don't celebrate them!!!
