Wanted: PF/L saloon lock set (Admin Please Move)
« on: 13 October 2011, 20:46:55 »

Hi Guys I am looking for a full set of locks for my 99 pf/l saloon with 2 keys.
I recently bought my mv6 and have realised that the key for the boot doesnt work, This is most annoying as two weeks ago the cenral locking failed on the boot and i had to climb through the back seats to open it. I have sorted it now, One of the wires was broken. But would like to change the locks incase this happens again.

I would like a set of locks including:
2 keys
ignition lock
door lock
boot lock
and if possible a glove box lock :y

Thanks Guys hope someone can help ;D

I know this might sound silly, but..try getting a replacement boot lock from a dealer.

This would probably be cheaper than a whole lock set, easier to replace, and far less hassle.
I had a similar problem with my estate tailgate lock, and went to my local dealer. He said that provided I had the car pass, he could get me a tailgate lock, cut to fit the existing key, for £35 + VAT, within 3 working days.

This was a whole lot easier than trying to swop ignition/door/boot locks, as well as faffing around with the immobiliser chips, etc....

When my new lock arrived, it was about 30 mins work to fit, and works a treat....

Might just be worth trying first, before going down the 'replace the whole lot' route. :y

I always knew I'd inherit an estate, but I never thought this would be it!

Totally agree with Dodger here. If you want to end up with just one key that operates every lock, getting a new lock to suit your existing key will be by far the most 'hassle free' way.

If, however, you can live with having a different key to manually lock/unlock the boot, then I'd suggest just buying a boot lock with key from a breaker as this will be a cheeper option. I would imagine that this will only be a backup key anyway, as the boot will usually be locked and unlocked via your main key and the car's central locking.

Take along your car pass (for the key number), V5 and photo ID.  They usually ask for all three.

BTW, I've been waiting since March for one of these - some components on back-order at the factory apparently.  Luckily my dealer is on the ball and chases it up for me every other week.  With any luck it should arrive soon and once the backlog is cleared you should get yours quite quickly.
