Dentist: Worst visit ever (not for the squeamish)
« on: 14 October 2011, 17:39:37 »

Ok, yesterday I went to the Dentist for an extraction.  :'(

I knew all about it weeks ago and had discussed various options with him.

I had my first (spotted where this is going yet) injection and waited for it to start working. To cut a long story short I ended up with four - which was the max allowable.

The pulling & prodding started, & went on and on and on. Then the old crown came off. "Seems deeply routed" said the Dentist & proposed cutting the tooth vertically & removing it in two bits. I agreed - but what choice did I have?

At this point my stress levels were high & increasing.

The cutting started but after a bit I felt a pain like nothing I've ever felt before and gave the agreed signal to stop. He then said that the infection inside the tooth was obviously worse than it appeared on the X-Ray and that we should stop, treat the infection and resume after a course of anti-biotics. "What about pain control ?" said I. "Good point, see your Doctor", was the reply.

"Sorry about that, that's the first tooth that I've ever not been able to remove". He looked genuinely embarrassed.

So after getting some stong stuff from the Doc, I can't feel anything as am drugged up - my face has swelled up and tongue ulcerated due to rubbing on the sharp inside edge of the tooth. I go to sleep easily enough but then wake up after a few hours for more pain relief.

Blooming heck, & I can't even drink to make it better, apparently if I did then in would reduce the impact of the antibiotics.

So, now you all know. Whats the adult Bonjella stuff for ulcers called?

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Toothache has to be one of the worst pains you can have, I remember I was nearly pulling my hair out with the pain a few years back - you have my sympathy  :(

Thing is that it actually feels better - but that's obviously the strong stuff working as it should  :-[

not a nice story mate.

strange as i had 7 injections when i had my front teeth capped. apparently that was the maximum but that was 9 years ago!

the feeling of that anaesthetic first time felt like my whole throat was swelling up and i was panicking cos i thought i wouldnt be able to breathe.

funny as hell eating a cake afterwards and then realising i'd eaten hardly any of it and it was smeared all over my face  ;D ;D ;D

I can top that. ;D
Went to dentist about 4 years ago to have a upper back tooth out which kept getting abscesses and infections. He started pulling it out but it started to break apart. He got the top part of and then had to pull each root out seperately. Each root had a sack of puss attached (which he insisted on showing me). When He squirted clean water in my mouth to rinse it out the water came back down my nose.He looked a bit panic stricken and had a good look inside my mouth.I attempted ask wtf was happening. He told me that the sacks of puss, which he now referred to as a cyst, had grown through the wall of my sinus and had ripped the wall of the sinus out when they came out.He had to do an on the spot operation which involved cutting the gum into strips which he could then sew over in a flap where the sinus wall had been.He prescribed very strong pain killers and off I went home.By the time I had gone 2 miles out of the 12 miles home I was in so much pain I couldnt think straight to drive the car.
People must have thought I was a mentalist.Driving along all by myself and screaming in agony. ;D ;D ;D
He told me I wasnt allowed to blow my nose or sneeze for 3 months. It was June, and I suffer from hay fever. ::) ;D

I had a wisdom tooth out in Romania a few years ago.....  :(  Compared to Rob and Albs stories however it was a breeze!!!  8)

The equipment was pretty antiquated and when they did the xray I had to wear a lead chainmail jacket/robe thing  :o

I would have legged it at that point. ::) ;D ;D
I remember headbutting the side of a swimming pool in Majorca years ago (Im a tad accident prone,if anyone hadnt noticed.) and cut my head open.Ordinarily I would have gone and had a few stitches put in,but I wasnt having any of it.Didnt trust johnny foreign doctor with needles etc.
The state this country is in now though,it would probably be safer to go abroad for medical treatment. ::)

What a coincidence. I am heading towards my third night of purgatory with an abcess. It developed on Tuesday night and Wednesday was a national holiday here so couldn't get antibiotics till Thursday midday. I even fell asleep in the waiting room from tiredness..

I had been maxing out on paracetamol so that is my liver ruined but tonight have a supply of Ibroprufen and co codamol. Try sleeping sitting up in a chair. ha not that easy.

You can get oil of cloves or something like that. Grim city. may the sleep be with you.
