Tyres
« on: 17 October 2011, 21:14:04 »

I have aquired a set of MV6 17inch wheels for my 2.6 CDX saloon and need tyres. What would be the recommended make of tyres in 235/45/17

really quite pointless question really, going to get a huge variation in answers. Might help if you say what kind of miles you do, what your looking for, wear rate, grip? Wet grip? Snow? Noise? Budget?

Depends on your budget/driving style/expectations etc. ;)

Whilst I agree that everyone has their budget, there are tyre & cheap tyres. The ally rims I have on my car came second hand & had two Events & 2 'other' cheap tyres  they were crap. I have 4 branded tyres on now (that The Boy doesn't really like - but hey ho!  ;)) and the difference is like chalk & cheese.

See, I don't agree with the lethal cheap ditchfinders I currently have on my Elite ;D

I really like my Sport Maxx TT on the Bullet, but really don't like the wear rate ::)

..............................What would be the recommended make of tyres in 235/45/17

As said, opinions will vary greatly. I've tried Michelin Pilot Sports (which were original fit from new) Continental SC2/3 and currently on Toyo T1R's. I only tend to press on in a straight line now but need to know that I can stop when I need to. As a straightliner my idea of a decent tyre is when you brake really hard in the wet and the contents of the back seat hit you on the head.  ;D ;D

Currently looking at replacing the Toyo's with Goodyear F1's of some description but have no experience of these. Most brand names in this size are over £100 each.

I bought mine when it was ten months old (Vauxhall management vehicle) so I've only lost about £23,000 so far.  :o :o  That's pretty good by my standards.  ;D ;D Ah well, easy come easy go as they say.  :y

When asking for tyre recomendations, really need to say what your prioritys are, and what you call "a good tyre"

Ie to some, a good tyre is the cheapest possible. To others performance and grip levels are key,but will be expensive. If you see what i mean... :)

My newest car was a 24v Senator for which I paid c£8k IIRC but had 114000 miles on it. There's no way I could, nor want to afford any car I fancied if it was new or anything like new.  ;) ;) ;)
