Ah, just realised what the thread is about...

As a pure "my cock is bigger than yours", the ST220 is faster.

Fully expect the ford to fall to bits in half the miles though... Or am I being unfair?

Possibly unfair, engines seem to last, bodywork probably slightly better than prefacelift Omega.

The Ford's usual reason for ending up in the scrappy is because it gets scared when you show it a corner....

Ford apparently are not what they used to be well at least thats what I have been told.... But they have had some lovely looking cars over the years... More than anyone else in my view.
Going to your question of what is faster? If you have something which is lighter, with more power the outcome is obvious....
The Omega is not a sports car and never will be. What it is however is a Very Comfortable Luxury Car which is no slouch.
Drive other cars, don't drive your Omega for a while then get back in it.... The answer will stare you in the face.

just my opinion of course :)

With reference to Kevs' post about acceleration being wasted if all lost at the next bend etc...

The Omegas' bulk really should help as it will have more momentum than the grotbox through the corner 8-).

Also being rwd and not wwd it will exit the corner doing a reasonable impression of facing the right way... :-X.

Also just to add, (because it has only just trickled through the void between my ears), the Granada Cosworth vs MV6 would be a slightly more interesting conversation.

Corners would eb more interesting.

The key factor will be the seat wheel interface though.

Unfortunately most of the replies seem very biased, which is not surprising given this is an Omega forum. I own a 2006 ST220 and previously had a 3.2 omega. The miggy was older 2003/53 and had 60k on the clock. Auto in elite spec and serviced and maintained very well by its prev owner. I only had the omega for 6 months due to its drinking problem. The ST on the other hand was reasonably economical if driven sedately, but when driven hard it had the edge over the Omega most if not all of the time. Felt much quicker too although comparing a manual to an auto is not fair. What the ST lacks is the comfy ride of the Vx over our beautifully surfaced roads.

Although most people inc me discount FWD cars, the ST was a surprisingly good car to drive. In fact as a drivers car I preferred the ST to the omega especially having taken both to Brands Hatch. The elite went because I did not see the point of such a thirsty engine in what was to me a relaxed cruiser. I do however have a 2.2 sport which I still have because its economical and yet comfy.

So from an owners perspective if you wanted a greater focus on comfort go for the Vx, as a drivers car the ST is much better. All IMHO.

How are they biased, I think most if not all said the Mondeo would be quicker ;)

All the comments about corners etc. If anyone had bothered to drive one before posting they would realise that the ST actually cormers a lot better than most omegas.

It will kick Elite suspensions arse, no doubt there. But not all omega suspension is Elite spec. If that's what your basing a comparison on?

Obviously mv6 would be a fairer comparison...

Or presumably, ST suspension is way more uncomfortable the Elite. Depends what you want out of life I guess.

But I'm really not sure what point the op is trying to make, as clearly is in full possession of all the facts from the outset. Other than the ST is faster of course.

Bothered?
