question for the dog owners...
« on: 27 October 2011, 15:05:26 »

we are looking at boxer pups on various internet sites at the moment, question i have is..do the boxers still have their tails docked or has that became illegal? couple of ads i have read have mentioned they have been legally docked, other ads show the pups with tails.
so any information about this would be appreciated, and on the off chance there is anyone selling boxer pups, we move to our new house mid november so anytime from start of december would be ideal. ideally im after a red male.

'Docking'....truly a tail of woe! :'(

Sooooo-much of the personality, feelings and pleasure of a life as experienced by a dog, is communicated and shared with you by it`s expressive tail and is also needed for maintaining it`s balance during leaping and swimming......
Please don`t silence your dog and turn it into a stumpy-mute!.....Nature knows best; dogs should have tails! :y

IMO: Docking is a human invention; a 'fashion'......what a shame that it has become so-widely accepted that many breeds are (irrationally) perceived to be looking 'wrong' if their beautiful natural body-part is left unmutilated! :-[

Forgive the rant......but I care a great deal about this subject. :-*

Hope you find that special 'one' as soon as possible. :y

i know what your saying debs, but in my opinion a boxer does look better docked. there are a couple around here with the long tail, just doesnt look right to me.
i am reading a few ads now though that mention bob tailed boxers...these are apparantly born with short tails, so maybe that is the way to go.
can you answer my original question though, is it banned or not?

It is illegal to dock a dog's tail ...... unless you can prove that the dog is going to be used as a working dog and is one of the breeds where the tail is docked for safety or effectivenes.

My cocker spaniel has a docked tail and I have several forms endorsed by Government approved vets confirming the legaility of the docking.
If it is for vanity - leave the dog with a tail IMO.   My dog is a pet and would be better off with a full tail, but because he came from a working dog breeder he was docked at birth.  The tail is important for balance and co-ordination so needs to be docked as soon as possible after birth (Think trying to walk if you chopped one of your big toes off!).

There are several people I know with jug ears and big noses who would probably look better with them 'docked'. Don't think they'd thank you for it though. The more people who decide to leave them as they were meant to be, the more it will be accepted as the norm. (Except for the snotty-nosed breeders, and I think they should be ostracised as butchers).

Certain dogs such as Dobermans used to have their ears cut into little points, probably just for vanity as well.  As far as I know this practice is now illegal as well, and a good job too!!!  :y

I do believe that is illegal..

We have a Boxer crossed with a Rottie, he has his tail. Granted it did look strange at first because we are used to seeing particular breeds with docked tails, but it seems weird now to see Boxers without their tails.
I must say though I would have one of these dogs again, absolutely nuts & playful  ;D  brilliant natured dog.

Can't imagine it would be nice having your tail off :-[
