There are some lucky people on this earth!!!
« on: 28 October 2011, 18:43:51 »

I went to a RTC in the early hours of this am. a car versus a tree, multiple casualties, on a 50mph speed limit road which didn't sound like a good combination to start off with. When I got there I could not believe it. I defo thought the worst, the car was irrecognisable, a small blue mangled wreck, drivers side completely caved in - roof, doors drivers seat, steering wheel, dashboard all bent and pushed right over into the passanger compartment (and I mean right over) front end bent underneath itself like a concertina. Unbelieveably both driver & passenger who were trapped managed to bend back the wreckage and get out  :o :o :o

The two of them were sat in an ambulance & chatting away like nothing had happened and only had bumps and bruises. There was a witness who saw it happen and he stated that the car left the road at speed, went down a ditch, then took off up the other side of it and hit the tree about 10 feet up in the air wrapping itself around it  :o :o :o :o before coming down vertically front end first and endin up squashed in a heap back in the ditch. When the witness said 10 feet in the air I thought 'Yeah right' but when I looked at the marks and shrapnel on it they were well out of my reach and I'm 6 foot 6. I literally couldn't believe it  :o

And the car.............I managed to find 5 parts of the number plate piece them together.......an old Ford Fiesta  ??? ???

Think I need to ask em tonights lottery numbers  ::)

i once attempted to cut down a tree using a mk1 facelift capri....

needless to say it failed miserably...   front end was totalled...   bonnet came up and back thru the windscreen,  only stopping when it hit the headrests....   thankfully, i'd seen that one coming and had already dived down across the passenger seat ,  ripping out the gear lever with my leg as i did so....   tore the muscles off my left calf....   dislocated my right knee....     but kept my head.....

verdict....  capri 0 tree 1,

(i was about 18...   driving probably a tad too fast for damp early autumnal morning , despite knowing the road well,   was not expecting to come round the corner and find a bloody cow standing in the middle of it.....    missed the cow....   mounted the grass verge.... still doing about 65..    almost regained control....   then realised the sideways attitude was going to wrap the car around the tree on my door....   decided to flick it with the hand brake to change the impact point,  to the front....  with significantly more mass between me and the tree....  and then ducked before impact, as i'd seen enough damaged front ends at banger races  to know what was potentially coming...    and i was right.....  i was , i would admit, slightly hoping that the rapid attitude change would slip me past the tree, and merely tangle with the hedge on the other side...    but was sensible enough to move, just in case it didn't   )

lucky to limp away from that one....

sadly, the lottery did not exist back then.....   and i would say i'd used all my luck for that week/month/year.....

I hope the police find the root cause of the accident as they are currently stumped!
