hunt and peck at motorway speeds on LPG
« on: 30 October 2011, 12:27:18 »

Wonder if anyone can shed light on this:

Petrol or LPG around town: fine on both

LPG on motorway: I put the foot down, and nothing. It judders and seems to gasp for breath. I switch to petrol, then it's OK. Just OK, like a 1.3 shopping trolley, not like a bat out of hell.

There was stuff coming out the exhaust - looks like horse hair, probably sound deadening come apart.

Then back in town, I stall on LPG.

Then, when I fire it up again on petrol or LPG, blue smoke comes out the exhaust.

Exhausr internals are coming apart and blocking the exit of gasses.Happened to me on the M11 a couple of years ago and it felt like the car had lost 100bhp.Revs were hunting up/down similar to your description.
You need a new back box (at least) but for the moment, get an old coathanger, bend a hook on the end and fish the rest of the glass fibre out. That should provide a temporary solution and prevent the box from exploding under the pressure. :y

2.6 V6 Tartarini multi-point.

I've done the coat hanger thingy but I pulled most of it out already last week.

I'd better go to an exhaust place - don't fancy an explosion while carrying small kids around!

If the fibreglass had come out, how come the car isn't any noisier?

ebay are doing a german system for £100 (search 'omega 2.6 exhaust') but I'd have to pay £50 for fitting somewhere.
A well-known retailer whose names rhymes with Slick Brit want £140 just for the back box, albeit fitted.

I wouldn't let the well known place work on a wheelbarrow ;) ;)

Try Steve at Heathrow Omega spares. He may have a good used exhaust at a decent price. :y
Other wise Eternal. :y
The back box doesnt make a huge difference to noise level imo. Most of the silencing is done by the centre boxes. ;)

I sold one a while back for £40 which had only been on the car for a couple of weeks before I dismantled it. ;)
Depends on the exhaust and the budget imo. :y

OK folks, I bought the German one on shebay.

Awaiting delivery, then get it fitted.

Car stalls pretty much every stop light so the sooner it arrives the better.

Will report back...

If you have managed to hook the remainder of the wadding out of the exhaust but your still having problems with how its running,I think you may have more than one problem. :-\
