We couldn`t get pumpkins when I was a tiddler, our house had to make do with carving out a turnip; I can still remember the scent of the hot turnip with a night-light candle inside it!

We couldn`t get pumpkins when I was a tiddler, our house had to make do with carving out a turnip; I can still remember the scent of the hot turnip with a night-light candle inside it!

Same here Deb's,  have you seen the size of turnips now, hardly bigger than an orange,  what happened to the big ones we used to use?

You can find some giant turnips in Westminster.

I thought this whole pumpkin carving thing was another imported American 'tradition', anyway? That and going out begging for candy sweets.. (Or, where I used to live, just money.. that's all the kids wanted - cash, £5 or more, each!)

We don't allow the boys to go trick or treating but see no harm in an in house pumpkin carving competition!
