Severn Bridge toll
« on: 31 October 2011, 15:11:02 »

Hi all, made a trip down south last Saturday to Portsmouth with my son to buy a sportstrack,I drove his Leon back whilst he drove  his jeep. Arrived at the tolls booths at the Severn bridge, and they tried to charge him the commercial van rate, nearly £12 to cross.
He argued that it was a suv, not a van,she in the toll booth said it has no rear seats,my son tells her that they are folded flat so that he could load the rear with the bull bar and soft top in the back.
This all took about 5 minutes to sort out until the operator accepted that was in the wrong, and he just paid the normal car toll £5.80.
So this posting is to say sorry for the delay,if any you were held up at the tolls about 3pm last saturday,it wasn't our fault.

I've got some friends who live near a suspension bridge on the river Loire at St Nazaire in France

When it first opened it cost 10 francs about £1 to cross, but after about 20 years it had made so much money it had paid for itself, plus a big enough fund to cover all foreseeable maintenance costs, so they made it toll FREE.  ::) :y

You can just see that happening in ripoff fleece the motorist at every opportunity Britain, can't you.  >:( >:(

That's exactly what was promised for the Dartford crossing, unless I'm very much mistaken. Either that was a very expensive bridge or we're being shafted. Hmm. I wonder which that'd be?

That was also promised for the Severn bridge and if I recall the tolls paid for it about 4 years ago.. :-\  Did they scrap the toll? NO!  >:( Did they reduce the toll? NO!  >:(  Charging £5.70 is a downright liberty in my opinion, especially when other bridges are alot cheaper! The Dartford brige is about £3?  ???  :-\

To add insult to injury I got done for speeding once, hightailing it out of Wales...... at the bridge!!!  >:( ::) ;D

Remember that £5.70 is for a return trip on the Severn Crossing, not each way ;)
