I have got a whine
« on: 31 October 2011, 20:55:36 »

And no its not a echo when I talk like swmbo said earlier  ::) ;D ;D

Just when I have been praiseing my car, it seems to have developed a whine when accelerating in 1st of 2nd gear.
It sounds like a thrust bearing type whine but nowhere near as loud.
Only seams to happen when its in gear but then again, i'm rather half deaf in one ear anyway

Its a r25 (5 speed manual) bolted too a 3 ltr engine

Any ideas please

Does it sound like it comes from the front, middle or back of the car?

More in the middle but to be honest, my right ear is that knackerd, i'm not sure  :-[ :-\

I have listened with the windows open but you hear it more with then shut.
I have held it at 40 mph in 2nd and knocked it out of gear (without dipping the clutch) and the whine fades away as the revs drop.

They is no play in the gearstick

Right, i've now had a 2nd opinion on this and i'm 95% certain that it is not coming from under the bonnet  :)

I don't think its the gearbox  :-\
It seems to be coming more from the centre to the back end  :-\

Also it seems louder when the engine is warmed up  :-\

How often should the diff oil be changed ?

I'd also check the passenger seat too. If I ever accelerate too hard I get a whining come from there when the wife's sitting in it!
