Oh dear mytyres.co.uk, your customer service is woeful..
« on: 04 November 2011, 14:51:50 »

So as some of you probably saw, I ordered 4x winter tyres on 4x steel wheels from mytyres.co.uk a couple of weeks back.. In the original order email it says:

"We will e-mail you with the estimated delivery date for the tyres along with the invoice as soon as the goods leave our warehouse.."

As it's now been a fortnight with no news I thought I'd call their office and see if they could give me some kind of a lead time on them.

After getting through to their call centre and to someone with a fairly thick accent who had trouble understanding my order number, the following conversation happened:

Her: "Ooohkay, well you see we don't have these tyres right now so they will take a little while to come."
Me: "I understand that, but it's been a fortnight, do you have any kind of estimated delivery date or date for the stock to come in?"
Her: "Nooooh, because we don't have them right now so you will have to wait."
Me: "But do you know how long I will have to wait? A few days, a couple of weeks?"
Her: "Oh, maybe 5 days."
Me: "You are getting stock in 5 days, then?"
Her: "Oh, no. We don't have them right now but we can get them, we'll email you when we dispatch them."
Me: "But that doesn't really help me know how long they might take to come."
Her: "No, you will have to wait. We have a lot of orders."
Me: "So you don't know if they'll be here this month? This year? January? Later?"
Her: "No, you will have to wait. We don't have them right now."
Me: "Er, ok, that .. doesn't really help me know if I'll have these winter tyres before winter.."
Her: "We will get them and email you when they..."
Me: *click*

Surely most suppliers to tyre places must quote a lead time for delivery .. I can't believe the whole supply chain works on the premise that "Yeah, they'll arrive. Some time. Soon. Maybe. Later. Who knows really!"...  ::) ::)

FFS. So .. do I cancel my order, try and source four cheap (smaller) wheels and four winter tyres, or do I continue to wait and hope they turn up before the weather turns really cold..  ::)

Aaronjb, from experience I can say that best method is to visit them and check the tires and their dates by hand.. and negotiate for price face to face.. :-\

Unfortunately I don't know of any places that would both keep the tyres in stock (they come from central distributors and are usually ordered when needed) and let you negotiate.. Kwik Fit (large chains) keep stock, but you have no room for negotiation, small places might negotiate but don't hold stock.

Chances of them being old are slim, however, they've become very popular in this country over the last year or two - to the point that supply can't keep up with demand (hence the delay here, I imagine)

Personally I would ring up and try to change the order to the one I suggested before, seemed to be in stock when I looked a few days ago.  If they don't have that in stock either and can't provide a date I would cancel.  They can't expect their customers to wait forever and just accept "Dunno" as an answer.

If you need to cancel then source some cheap 15/16" wheels from here, put up a wanted thread.  Someone should have something.  Then get your tyres separately, that's what I've done.

You don't want to be waiting till the snow hits and find out that they still don't know when the tyres will arrive.  The longer you wait the less choice of tyres you will have because the stock of winter tyres will rapidly decrease as soon as the first flake of snow is seen.

must admit that really is bad customer service and completely different to my experience with them from about this time last year when I ordered some nokia winter plus ones . Given that there were all sorts of problems at the time in the uk with both couriers and royal mail I ordered mine on friday and got them the following tuesday and was able to track the progress at all times. Think they came from Russia(?) via Germany too! Although I selected the tyres online I phoned the order through because I wanted to confirm instock availability first and found their customer service excellent. I do remember that I'd phoned several uk suppliers first who without exception all said they could beat the price and without exception all then phoned back to say that they couldnt actually promise to be able to source them for me!BTW, I purchased just the tyres rather than have them on steelies as several people recommended that tyres were better stored off the wheels. I know it'll cost me about £40 each time to refit/balance but I'm hoping for a minimum of 4 seasons use.Hope they can sort it out for you.One of the golden rules of customer service is not to promise what you can't deliver-and, if you encounter problems, keep your customer informed! Guess the whole winter tyre market is now such a seller's one as demand in this country outstrips supply...

I haven't - is that these folks: http://www.iberkshire.co.uk/profile/453201/Bracknell/Total-Tyre-and-Exhaust-Co/

I've only used Bracknell Tyre & Battery behind the tip down here.. they fitted the summer tyres but couldn't do winter tyres on wheels (though they could get some winter tyres, I'd just need to source wheels)

If you've paid, cancel for refund. If not, don't cancel. Buy elsewhere, but still pester them, daily, then when they do come in, say "sorry, I couldn't wait that long, I've found an alternative supplier"...click!
They can't expect you to wait more than a week, not impossible for tyres to become illegal in that time.  :-X

Try Micheldever tyres. They are a massive supplier with huge buying power. I usually save more than the petrol money to get to them, if I can't source locally. Extreme example, sc3's where £170 a set cheaper than from blackboots/wim.(although wim did say they could only source them from a competitor) and where £80 cheaper than anyone local...couldn't afford not to.

Well, at this point I can only describe MyTyres customer service as truly abysmal and I'd emplore anyone never to deal with them under any circumstances.

I've finally given up on these winter tyres and am in the middle of sourcing a set of wheels and tyres (wheels from here, tyres from Camskill) so I thought before I pull the trigger on that, I should cancel my order with MyTyres.

So I called and listened to the computer generated auto prompt, and spoke to (I'm fairly sure) the same inept lady I spoke to last time (Bianca, for the record).

I asked to cancel my order and I was told;

"Oh, you ordered wheels and tyres. I don't know if you can cancel because it's complicated. I'll have to email someone and ask them and get back to you in 24 hours."
"Ok, well, it's been over a fortnight now and you can't give me either a delivery date, so here's what I want to happen: Either you give me a delivery date, or you cancel my order."
"Well it's very complicated so I'll have to ask if you can cancel your order."
"Let me put it this way, either you cancel it, or I'll ask the credit card company to dispute the charge."
"We haven't charged you yet so you can't do that."
"If I have to cancel the card I used, I will, as I say; either give me a delivery date or cancel my order."
"I will have to ask someone and get back to you by email."
"Ok, do that then."
"Ok. Is there anything else I can he.." and I hung up.

What a complete shower of .. excrement.

Sounds like very poor service. I have to say that I have never had a problem with them, but I usually ring the freephone number and confirm stock of what I want before ordering. Then its 2 days before it gets delivered to me.

The phone support is a bit ropey, usually heavily accented and not very bright, but things like stock info are easily confirmable via telephone.

Camskill are pretty good with stock updates, but I have had a few dim wits on the phone there as well when I have rung through for some advice.

You'd think delivery timescales would be as well, but apparently not ;)

Oh well.. I've resorted to quoting the distance selling regs - in email - to them, requesting a response within 24 hours. Which I don't expect to get..
