no speed dont kill...bad driving kills...but then speed in the wrong place is bad driving

Pictures from BBC news this morning show the crash site from a bridge a mile or so away. When they zoom in what's visible could easily lead to a view that Lorrys are heavily involved and might be a cause.
3 Lorrys in various states of jack knife.   :-\

Very very very sad. My heart goes out to all those involved.

I wonder how many of those involved were observing proper safe distances for the conditions. It still amazes me how close people drive regardless of the conditions.

Apparently there was a large firework display taking place beside the motorway where the accident happened. Someone may have got distracted,trying to take a look at the fireworks as they were driving ?  :-\

I understood those reports to mean, eyewitnesses thought the explosions where part of the nov 5 celebrations.  :-\. No mention of there ectually being fireworks in the area in the report I heard. But who knows?  :(

I took the sound of the "explosions" to be the vehicles hitting each other.

This is an horrific tragedy, my thoughts are with the relatives, and friends of those who lost their lives, and the badly injured
 :'(
I think that driving too close in the conditions will be the likely cause, it seems a long time since we had the mass pile ups in fog and people tend to forget the danger.

Very sad, hope the ill all recover and my thoughts with the familys of those who died.

Hope the message gets across to those who drive dangerously in bad conditions, i keep seeing terrible driving on motorways.
there is a patch on the m4 with chevrons painted on the road, and in my experience around there ppl do normaly then drop back to a safe distance. its like half the drivers dont even know how far back they should be.
