Been to Laarbruch, but never stationed there - at least not while I was alive I think my Dad was before I was born, mind (pre 1978)

My dad was an RAF medic for 26 years, and mum was an RAF nurse when they met  She left the RAF early on (1967, I think) to get married to my dad, rather than them be posted apart, and my dad stayed in until the late 90s

I used to go back up to Binbrook now and again for a look around.

There is still a lightning up there (xr724 iirc)

Its run by the lightning asociation but has been left to rot at the back of the old 5sqn hanger 
I went down there a few times to help them out but to be honest, its run by a bunch of knobs who are more interested in village politics then keeping the old girl working 
They used to start it up and run it up and down the old pan but I don't think it has moved for a few years.
The runway was dug up for hardcore a few years ago.

There is 2 lightnings I believe at Bruntingthorpe.
I have been told that they do open days and night time taxi runs then let it rip down the runway in full reheat for a few seconds 
Must get my arse down there with the camera sometime

there was a lightening up at B.A.E rochester up untill 3-4 months ago...not sure it was air worthy as it was concreted to the floor

Lightning was a very fast aircraft.

Only aircraft to beat it to altitude was a Harrier being VTO then straight up.

Lightnings have intercepted U2 spy planes as well.

Bloody hell there are a few faces there I remember 

Roly Elliott was my team chief on team 5 ASF (84/87) 
And I think he has more hair now then in them days

Its well worth going to see Andy and the boys at Brunty, they also have the old Wattisham QRA shed there (finished last year) to house them in.

There a mad bunch, I have seen Andy sitting on the rear before looking through an inspection hole for leaks whilst the throttle is pushed through the gate!
