Dave came down for a bit of moral support / extra pair of hands whilst doing wishbones, dropliinks, new discs/pads and brake fluid change today.

It was really great to have both the company, and someone to work with, so thanks mate

On a positive note - the car is transformed.

The old front bushes were absolutely shot. And the passenger droplink had loads of play in. With the new 'bones the bushes are totally tight, and the wheel does not visibly 'kick out' anymore when you lever the front bush! 

Clunk also gone.

All in all, no real snags. I was a little worried because the NS droplink, top nut, didn't appear to be tightening very well initially, but all torqued up Ok with a locknut for safety, so no problem.

The only thing that was a bit tricky, was getting the balljoints reconnected to the struts. The wishbone just won't force down enough to get it in, so ended up raising the strut a little. (anyone else ever done that? )

Torqued up on the ground, as per guide.

I've had an enjoyable day 

Dave I can only apologise about the discovery that my LPG cable is broken. I will fix it, and come to you, to change that setting

Oh, I reused the bush bolts, BUT used new pinch bolts / Nuts - as that one seems to get quite corroded

I know however I say this you may take offence, it isn't meant to be offensive but just an observational question really...

You offer yourself as a Mobile Mechanic and have done so for a while. I have seen that people have been happy and put good write ups, but why would a Mobile Mechanic need moral support whilst doing Wishbones etc?

I DONT need moral support.

But, ultimately, Dave wanted to come down anyway for an LPG software job, so what's the harm? If nothing else, it's nice to have the company, and, regardless of how competent someone is, it's always nice to have someone giving you an extra pair of hands, to hold the other side of a bolt, or pass you tools, no?

Doing such a job is better with someone to chat to, and banter with, rather than being under the car on your own, regardless of how competent you are, or how basic the job is?

Same reason TB probably came over when you were doing those Head gaskets recently? I'm guesing you didn't NEED his help, but it was nice to have him there?

Well, today is exactly the same principle.

Like you, I have scores and scores of posts from people who have been delighted with work I have done for them, both the quality and the price, and,  again like you, I have a group of people who only ever come to me.

Ultimately, I have the skills to do my own LPG conversion, and maintain my own car without paying others, which most people would love to be able to say - So, I'm not worried at all.

Most of all - I do it because I enjoy it.

And further to my last

My area of competence whereby I am happy to work for others, is on Engines. (I've always made it clear this is my specialty, and I do not touch suspension for other people).

Therefore, the ONLY services I offer - and ever have offered - are engine work.

Whilst I am more than capable of doing jobs like wishbones, (as evidenced today) - suspension and brakes is an area of work I will not do for other people, on a paid basis, simply because I've not done enough of them to do it blindfold.

You say your question was not meant to cause offence - which I accept - and it hasn't - but, I see no other constructive reason to ask. Maybe a PM would have sufficed?

James, no need to thank me for popping down mate, you did me a huge favour today.

Having no knowledge of mechanics generally, it was great to be shown and have a go and changing the drop links, pads, discs etc. Like I said to you earlier, I'd have a go and be confident at changing pads & discs now where before I'd have got you or someone else to do it. At least now I know where the drop link is now, lol

If you did not mean you needed Moral Support then perhaps you should have said what you actually meant and not left it for folks to hazard a guess, as you did actually say you needed Moral Support.

Which I took in the way it was meant .... a light hearted comment on the work about to be commenced ... ( hence my slightly sarcastic comment regarding printing off the guides).... not a plea for a plethora of soothsayers to descend on him waving magic wands and chanting mystic words ......

As for Jaime coming over whilst I did some head gaskets, that was surely for him to admire my good looks, as I can stand him and would not really want him anywhere close...........

Someone to talk to is nice (apart from Jaime, Mike Dundee etc) I understand that but from where I am sitting and maybe others who haven't got the 'dangle berries' to say anything, you could have chosen your words better to reflect your talents.
