Hi, I think my oil breather box is blocked up, searched the net and it seems to be suffering from the symptons of this.

I have taken the box off tonight and it does seem to be blocked, especially the smaller nipple.











Is it worth trying to clean it out and the pipes with an air line? Or is it just worth buying a new one?

Also the cambelt, I have a belt sitting here, is there a guide on how to do it?

Have you checked out the breather maintenance guide on here, tells you exactly what to do.

Before you decide, bear in mind that a new breather box is over £91. Might help your decision.

Re the cam belt ... "guide" is a DVD you can purchase from the shop.... but you MUST, without doubt MUST, have access to the correct locking kit before you start.. it is almost impossible to time the cams correctly without, and any errors could be exceedingly expensive !!

Forgot to say .. you don't just change the belt .. its the tensioner pully bearings that fail and cause all the problems.

Thanks for the replies, breather looks straight forward, job to do tomorrow.

Am I right in thinking not to refit the intake plenium before I fit the belt as the timing cover cant be removed with this in place?

I already have a timing belt, it came with the sale of the car, I cant seem to find a seperate tensioner though?

A "cam belt kit" comes with a lot more than just a belt .. pulleys, tensioners, back plate .....

If a belt alone has been left in the car I'd be extremely cautious ....

Thanks people, ordered the DVD and I have found a timing kit on eBay without a belt.

Just need the locking kit, emailed vaux.

When cleaning out the breather system you can use a LOT of carb cleaner. I also used pipecleaners was amazed at hom much gunk comes out.

Dont forget that if spraying down into the breather box (unless you remove it from the car), that any gunge dislodged will end up in the sump - so its probably a good idea to do an oil change afterwards ................

As my car was garaged whilst I did mine over a few days I dreained the hot oil and then cleaned the breathers so that the carb cleaner washed down and was drained away also.

                                                                             have a look on ebay. Was scrolling through yesterday and found a tensioner kit without the belt said it was brand new. But it was £72 maybe just worth buying a whole new kit.
