Rear shocks
« on: 06 November 2011, 19:08:22 »

Hiya.  I was under the rear of the car fixing a slight exhaust leak when i noticed that there was a heck of a lot of oil around the shock on the nearside of the car. I had a closer look and it looks like new springs have been fitted but this oil looks pretty old and caked on isuppose the probable cost put the last owner off. Anyway i had a look up and there is a wire comming out from the top of the shock absorber so i guess its one of these selfe leveling ones. I thought these were air operated not that i know too much about them.
Is it shot. and are they very expensive and can they be changed for standard shocks. If so how do you not confuse the computer if the self leveling ones are disconnected.
The car is an Omega 3lt elite 2000.
If anyone can help it would be much apreciated. :-\ :-\

Hi, in reply to your question, I have a 3.0 Elite, had same problem with rear shocks. I got standard shocks that were recomended to me by my local Discount Autoparts and all i done was tied off the self levelling pipes, but i still hear the sound under front drivers wing but this appears to be no problem and it went through the MOT ok. You just dont get the select ride that it gives with self levelling. Don't skimp on cheap shocks.

Ree
