Every time I try to top up my PAYG vodafone, I either get a stop on my card or an avalanche of automated calls from the card fraud department asking me to call them, on an 0845 number of course, to discuss it. When I try to do so, they want me to go through security details at least twice (and once three times) before they will talk about the problem. No matter how many times I tell them that topping up a PAYG every 3 months for the last ten years is NOT suspicious behaviour, they take no f*****g notice, and do exactly the same next time. I've cancelled one card because of this, and now the other one is doing the same.
OK, I know there are other ways of topping up, which I shall have to use, or blow a fuse, (sort of poetic that), but one does lose the will to live at the inability of these card companies to recognise regular types of usage.

There's a lot of fraud through phone top-up transactions, etc. due to very little in the way of security. I got my card stopped a few months ago due to a PAYG phone top-up. I don't own a PAYG phone, so I guess they are weeding out some fraud.

I'd start calling the card issuer in advance of topping up your phone. They'll soon get the message.

Thanks Kevin, but having tried that several times to no avail, I'm giving up. I'll buy a top-up card in future.
