And no doubt his replacement will be someone who is well connected within the EU and will take orders from Merkel. The man said to be in line to take over In Greece is such a person,as is the recent PM of The Republic of Ireland.the way I see it,Germany is using this crisis as a cover to colonise Europe.
Simon Heffer seems to agree.

AT the Group of 20 summit in Cannes, delegates could be seen wearing badges for the "Groupe de Francfort".

Weeks after its creation, the ad-hoc Frankfurt Group, known by its French acronym GdF, has been dubbed the politburo of the 17-nation eurozone. Its most powerful members are German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, along with International Monetary Fund head Christine Lagarde, the chairmen of the Eurogroup finance ministers, the European Central Bank, the European Union Finance Commissioner and the heads of the European Commission and European Council

Well, the last 4 (at least) have been very compliant,so they shouldnt have much trouble finding another if need be. ;)

Germany is welcome to the problems of overspending governments and volatile populations, determined to preserve their living standards at other peoples expense.  :o :o :o If ever there is a poisoned chalice it is this one. I suspect that if Germany takes full responsibility for fiscal union (along with their poodle Sarkozy) with the associated bailouts, it will either bankrupt them or there will be mass disobedience from the populations of the PIIGS at the severity of the austerity measures and no democratic vent for their anger, as all economic policy will come from the EUSSR Politburo in Brussels.  :o :o :o :D :D :D

In reminds me of what Churchill said when Italy aligned themselves with German and declared war on France and the UK. "Well someone has to have them, as I guess it is Germany's turn this time." Looks like they might get the short straw again.   ::) ::) ::)

I'm not sure who made this quote on Italy. "It will take 2 divisions to mop them up and 20 divisions to prop them up." But I think this may very well be true, with the countries that lend Italy their bailout €billions.  ::) ::) ::) I just hope we are not involved as it will be money down the drain. Can you imagine Germany being able to efficiently vet the population's wealth and collect the taxes due in Southern Italy, especially Sicily?  :o :o :o

We will know the Euro battle is over when France has been downgraded to something like BBB-, her banks are in big trouble and Sarkozy is making one of his Napoleonic speeches telling the nation how France will robustly defend their financial institutions and banks from attack and damage by speculators and foreign governments, but Paris is an open city for a complete German financial bailout and overview from their economic committee. ;D ;D ;D Sarkozy will then explain that he will be keeping complete control of municipal administration from their Government offices in Vichy.  ;D ;D ;D

Another interesting, thought provoking and probably extremely accurate post Rod. Its obvious that in the short and medium term (at the very least) their plans are crazy and unworkable, but they are the worst kind of politicians - drunk with the power they already have, and as desperate as any crackhead to acquire more of it. Therefore I assume they cant see beyond the end of their collective noses.

In relation to the Op  - don't hold your breath.

The conduct of the governing bodies during the course this Second Republic has been modelled on very same sharp practice and outright corruption practiced so proficiently by their predecessors.

You’ll never get a straight answer from the majority of politicians, lease of all Italian ones, witness Snr. Berlusconi’s pledge not to stand for re election – in 2013, so does that mean he’s staying in office until then?

Self interests, lack of moral concern and rank incompetence have all, amongst other things, made a mockery of the so called democratic process.

It’s a very unpalatable example of human frailty and excess at its worst – all laid bare and fuelled (in this instance) by the corrupt empire of ‘Brussels’ and those gutless oppsers in our own administration who would champion its cause.

Our attention should be directed towards the cess-pit that is Westminster and how to flush out the shits clinging to power there and less towards foreign fields where the slurry, so ably dispensed to aid the growth of corruption, has simply turned to a rank slime - incapable of doing anything but enhance the well-being of those who dispensed it.
