Oxford taxis
« on: 17 November 2011, 21:57:56 »

PLANS to install CCTV cameras recording sound and video in all Oxford’s taxis have sparked a civil liberties debate.

The plans, as revealed in Monday’s Oxford Mail, will see all conversations recorded as well as video footage from the moment the key is turned in the ignition until 30 minutes after the car is switched off.

How long before all cabs get this? How long before we're watched...and listened to...24/7?

Yep, spot on. In fact, I think they need to install CCTV in very car to see whether you have exceeded the speed limit, or committed an action of "road rage". They could also use it to check if you have halted on double yellow lines. In fact, they could install CCTV on your head to make sure you never utter a word which could be construed as sexist or racist. They should also install CCTV in your home to ensure that you do not smack your children (child abuse) or light up a ciggie in the kitchen (crimes against humanity). In fact, I think they should hard-wire our brains (with wireless satellite communication) to ensure we don't think have any thoughts that are not approved.

Will be the same story here, the idea being sold to us and on the surface seems good. The problem here is what comes further down the line and slowly but surely they begin to use the same equipment for other purposes and before you know it you are under constant observation for everything you do or say.

Why can't the camera be connected to the meter?  So that when the cab is working it can be monitored, and when it is in private use, like taking the cabbies kids to school it stays private. :y
