Perhaps the multitimer and fuse have rusted through and are now dead shorts.

It won't work on Omega, unless you leave car with ignition ON. But it is quite risky, because it will not only charge battery, but also will feed all electrics on car (ECU, ABS, Airbag, Heater.....). So you can end with melted wire insulation for cigarette lighter :-\

But the lighter socket is disconnected from the battery by the ignition switch unless you leave the ignition switched on, so it won't charge the battery anyway.

Is there a timer on it? Noticed you can still draw some power from ciggy with key out.

The facelift rear lighter socket is active for a few minutes after ignition turned off.. unless your battery is flat, in whichb case the timer relay won't pull in. ;)

The front lighter socket switches off with ignition.

Mine rear one seems to work for about 15 minutes .... which is what the handbook says .. :)

Ok, went there last night and got on charge (F29 and 17 works well) went back lunch time today and it started on the button, so thanks all  :y

Agreed last night with the guy £200 max, assuming it starts, so having turned up today and got the car running for Him (and Me), He says to me, Ive had the car valued by one of these so called 'we buy any crappy car dot con' for £650 and a local guy who's told Him £500 min, can I up the ante a bit more to fall in line with this! coz He thinks Im taking the piss a bit!

Those of you that have met Me, know Im a fairly down to earth type bloke, so we had a bit more of a diplomatic conversation which started to get a bit heated, so I decided just to walk.

Think my last words where something like, think your the one taking the piss, MOT runs out tonight
does'nt mate, good luck with it.

Not even a thank you for getting His Car going, Oh well some you win and all that.
