Why do I find this body disfiguration so gross?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15771237

Maybe I'm just not cool anymore. :( ;)

Anymore, Nick?

It's not for me - I'd look like a prize idiot* - but I wouldn't say no to Ms Conradine, pictured in the article.

*Some would argue that I already do.

Perhaps I'm just old fashioned by I personally don't find any form of body "art" particularly appealing be it piercing or tattoo's. Maybe it's a kind of statement to say "look how much pain I had to endure" ::) Having said that I've no objections to people who have it done (as many of my friends have) but it ain't for me. A couple of mates had tattoo's done when they were really young but now they're older they wish they hadn't.

Apologies to all with 'tats' and various 'inserts', I know it`s your own body and life-choice etc.: but I`m not keen :-[......sends "all the wrong messages", I`m afraid! :'(

:-[ My nephews have tattoos.....handsome, clever, kind and decent lads; mutilated (by self choice) with low artistic-quality, "stuck with for life" scrawlings. :'(

I thought I'd logged into the wrong forum then!

Being a member of a body mod forum I have to say I find it intriguing what can be done to the human body! :y

I'm fairly well pierced and tattooed but think I'm a bit old to start stretching ears now! ::)

Each to their own and I can see why people don't like it, think its also a generation thing, it's becoming a lot more mainstream and acceptable with younger people where as older people tend to not approve.

That's what freedom of choice - through democracy - adds to the fabric of the nation.

I do suspect however that it's also a sign of many people holding the opinion that 'anything goes' in this society - where great emphasis is placed upon the individual’s right to do what they please, and willingly (or with disinterest) tolerate the phrase, 'stuff the rest of youse if you find it disconcerting' – thereby judging this to be the norm rather than the exception.

Personally I find there's something quite appealing about good tattoos on women..  :-[

Probably has something to do with my desire to be able to 'pull off' the tattooed look myself, but I suspect I'd just look like a right pillock (same as the piercings) if I tried it. :( Not to mention being somewhat phobic of needles..

It took me some 12 years to find the courage to go and have a minor operation on my toe because it involved a local anaesthetic (which took a total of three injections)..  :-[

Of course when I finally 'bit the bullet', there was really nothing to it. I'm just a big baby ;D

I personally have no objection to anyone disfiguring themselves, just so long as they don't me laughing ;D ;D
