Both front seats fed from the same fuse.

Suspect the element has failed, although you seem to be unlucky in that it's usually the driver's seat that fails.
Take it out & have a look. You may be lucky that the burnt bit is obvious & you might be able to cut it out & re-join the element. My fix has last 7 years so far ..............  :-X

You do need to be aware that you may have to do significant seat stripping to get to the damaged bit.

What year Elite do you have, cloth/leather, what colour are the seats and do they have side airbags?

I visit Cambridge regularly and also have a stock of heated seat parts - but only for mini-facelift cars, so may be able to help out.

Good luck  :y

Yep, this will be on a turn in the element. The elements use many (i.e. 0ver 100) fine wires, some of these break which then cause a hotspot. The hotspot will cause more wires to fail and heat up more, and so on ...... As TB says it WILL fail and then go open circuit and not heat up at all.

IMO remove the seat back, locate the connector plugs to the individual pads. Bell those out with a meter, hopefully the back will have failed, as that's easiest ime. and might be possible to repair seat the in car, (although it's short work to remove the seat altogether if the base is fubar.)

Once diagnosed then see if you can remove the plastic head rest inserts and the lumber knob, if not give up as they have to come off to remove the cover. Then the rest is as the guide iirc. As Andy says, hopefully the scorch marks will be obvious to find the break in the element.

Or replace the seat altogether with known working one.

I'm being dumb - I have a seat available, but its for a MFL not a FL which is what the OP has. Sorry to have confused things.
