This evening after work i popped into the local Somerfield for a friday bottle. 2 girls aged about 9 or 10 were at the door. One had her pushbike turned upside down 'cos the back brake had siezed on. They asked me if i had a toolkit. I looked at her bike, & slackened the cable off, so she & her friend could get home. Sadly what was running through my mind at the time was, if i could'nt fix her bike i would'nt want her to try & drag it home, they'd both be at risk. Immingham is a small town & i could've got both bikes in the Mig & made sure the girls got home safely but all the time i was thinking i'll take them home if i have too but i'll have to ask the security guard or another member of the public who'd gathered round to come with me for fear of being accused of something sick. Luckily no need but it's a sad world we live in when an adult is scared to help a child.
I'll be honest, it left a lump in my throat.
