Just a quick note, it's not illegal to have two insurance policies on the same car, it's only illegal if you try to make more than one pay out.

Otherwise TempCover and the like would be severely limiting their market...

As an aside but still on same topic (insurance). I had a problem with my insurer in the UK when it came to NCD, the old spanish insurer only states 4 or more years but I was entitled to 8, anyhoo to cut a long story short, after about 5 months of to and fro with emails and letters, my last email to them was that I was tired of the run around and would be sending all the previous email trail to the Omudsman for them to sort out........... in the reply the very next day they had 'decided' after 'reviewing' my case again that I was indeed entitled to the 8 years, Seems the very mention of them is enough for the to$$ers to capitulate so stick with it Mr. Baron and good luck mate,

Jon

Makes no sense. If you have simply switched policies when one expired, then how can you backdate anything? In fact its illegal to have 2 policies on the same car. So if you can prove that there was an existing policy on the car from May to Sept then Kwik fit have no case. Even if you did not have previous insurance, its your choice as to when a new policy starts. Ask to speak to a manager rather than the telephone answering monkey.

I'm not sure you'd have to, TBH... Not to Kwik Fitup, at any rate.. It's not their responsibility to ensure your car is insured at all times..

Let's say the car wasn't insured for a period (yet it was taxed).. What concern is that of Kwik Fitup? OK, the DVLA, as the authority responsible, might be after you for a fine, or whatever, but I can't see what provision KF have to take it upon themselves to insure the vehicle retrospectively at your expense. :o

You have entered into a contract to insure your vehicle for a period of time of your specification.. They decide to charge you retrospectively for a period not covered by that contract. Straight to the Ombudsman, IMHO. >:(

It's long been known that if you let them touch your car, they'll make a pig's ear of it. Seems they now have the capability to @rse things up without ever seeing it. ;D
i think that maybe the road im going down. anyone got a linky for them?. :)

The Ombudsman will not look at your case until you have been through the company's internal complaints procedure and will then only take the case on should you still not be happy with KF's final response.

However, if you either write to them or call them and threaten them with going to the Ombudsman I'm sure they will recoil at some stage; bearing in mind it will cost KF over £500 if a case is referred to them  :y

Just keep saying you're not happy with their decision and that you will take it to the Ombudsman until you get the result (and compensation for the hassle, anxiety and stress the whole sorry situation has caused) you want.  :y :y :y :y
