ok, as some may have seen in my last post, took the omega for a long drive today, was stuck behind a lorry doing about 30-40mph, saw a clear gap so went to take it, put my foot down kick down kicked in, but wouldnt change up a gear again it just redlined, untill i let off the throttle abit then it felt likeit slip in to the upper gear... is this normal for a omega?

never had it before on other autos ive had!

No it should change just a fraction before red line with Sport mode (S button on the gear stick)

this was without sports mode, but i did try at another point to do it in sports mode but same again!

With or without Sport mode, if you've got your foot buried in the shagpile it should change at the redline, or near as damnit anyway..

You're right though, not normal, not normal at all. Time to drop the autobox oil and check for bits of thrust washer, perhaps?

If your foot is planted and held down on the kickdown switch, it will rev to just before the rev limiter, then change up.
It makes no difference if its in sports mode or not when your foot is firmly planted too the floor. 

Did it actually hit the rev limiter? As when I first got mine, I sometimes used to see the revs go up and think 'change...change...change' and then I would lift off the throttle thinking it wouldn't change up in time... however if I just left it a fraction longer it would have done!

yes it was redlining, the needle was bouncing

Thats not right then! As others have said, check the ATF level and top up / change if needed.

It shoud change straight away just before the limiter in a quick action to the next gear without any slipping etc.

UPDATE - took her out this morning for further tests...

she is bouncing at 4 and a half k revs in normal mode and boucing just on the redline in sports mode!

havent had chance to check levels yet, catch up on work day today :-(

Anyone know the spec on auto box oil?  When should it be changed? (miles/time).  Is it worth putting any of the miracle additives in?  I've no problems but as a sort of TLC...

Advisable to change ATF at around 70,000 miles. Dont use additives of any kind.

Mines just done 80k and is probably as old as the car.  I've had it 11 years I think and can't remember it being changed.  I'll get it done (without additives).

If it's limiting at 4.5k under any circumstances I would say it'd be worth reading the engine codes in case there's a cam sensor / knock sensor issue putting it into limp mode.
