I get the impression that the actual fight will play a very small part and the documentary will concentrate on ths physcological effect that it had on Benn, and MacLennan's struggle to overcome the physical disablilties resulting from brain damage caused by the fight.
Thereby giving a platform for the anti boxing brigade, I hope not but we shall see tomorrow. It will be a must watch programme. :y

The fight of their lives
« Reply #4 on: 05 December 2011, 23:49:55 »

I can't believe that fight of Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan was in 1995......

I have loved and followed boxing for years, but seeing that young man who was so fit before his Blood Clot in his Brain which has left him blind, hardly hear brought tears to my eyes...

know what you mean arry..... only caught the end of the programme always sad to see someone at the peak of thier career ending so tragically. Even Benn looked a bit worse for wear in old age he was certainley a fighter

I saw a report with McLellan on Tube, was made at six years after his tragic defeat. It was unbelievable to see and hear that he has to live without pension or any money from supporters. No visited by any member of his former box team. Excellently represents the Don King's soulness world of professional boxing... :'( :'( :'(

The fight was a bruttle one it has to be said. When Benn in the first round got knocked out of the ring I must admit I did not hold much hope for him. Had McClellan not been ill (as for a number of rounds he really was gasping for air) I think he would have won.

Frank Bruno has never impressed me with his Boxing. His physic on the otherhand looked like he had been sculptured from Steel.

What I didn't know until last night though, was that Roy Jones Jnr did not want to fight McClellan at that time. Now he can use his hands  :y
