Aargh power sounder!
« on: 06 December 2011, 14:16:09 »

Some of you may remember my red MV6 catching fire due to a knackered power sounder! :(

Anyway gets in Big Blue this morning, starts her up and off goes the power sounder - total panic as to why we didn't think to check that it had been removed! ???

Anyway after a paranoid morning at work waiting for the fire to break out, got home and Jimbob removed the offending article. :-*

On first inspection it looked like the outer was corroded but on opening it up inside seemed to be in good condition.

A check of the alarm log showed no trigger so sounder had just gone off of its own accord.

Suspect we've had a lucky escape!

Aye...

I had emptied the alarm log when we bought the car.  It was still empty so the alarm hadnt been triggered.

Powersounder case seals had whitish gunk round them, similar to battery acid leaking, but must have been water damage, as when opened up the circuit board and 2 varta batteries in perfect condition, the batteries did feel warm though (5 mins after disconnection)

Once bitten, twice shy maybe.....but we are much happier now its nowhere near the car!

Ohhh, forgot to do the ignition trick initially, so on disconnection got deafend....quickly plugged it back in, started and stopped again, and removed in silence.

It's the type of thing that would happen to me twice! :(  Can't believe we never thought to check!

Mine did exactly the same the other day, thanks so much for reminding me! I defo need to bin it.

First time I did one, I didn't think about ignition either. Thankfully, I had a bowl of water I'd just drained from a rad, next to me, so I just chucked it in that, which shut it up ;D :D

:o What a relief it just squealed and didn`t "do-one" :y......I must confess, that fire in a vehicle is one thing that`s always on my mind: perhaps more-so with me being around light aircraft.

e.g: I always have a 'plan' when I`m refuelling at the petrol station; I always ask any passengers to unfasten their seatbelts (in preparedness) lest the pump/hose/other cars catch`light.....but if the worst were to happen: first thing would be get everyone and the dogs safely out: 'take some major steps' ::) and then begin counting blessings! ;)

What steps did you take, madam?......."Blinkin` big ones!" ;D

Had one that woud not shut up no matter how it was removed, ignition on, off, disconect, still went off, reconnect try again, still defened. Wrapped it in a towl, stuffed in a bucket, shut in a cupboard at the back of the garage, still bloody loud.

Rattle the ear drums dont they.  :o

Suppose i should remove mine really.  :-\

Only ever had mine go off once... (and I've had the battery on and off LOADS of times!)

And of course, it was gone midnight when it went off wasn't it... Woops! (God only knows why I was fiddling with the battery at stupid O'clock in the first place!)  :-[
