This morning on switching to LPG the car coughed and stuttered as though it was missing, on arrival had al ook under bonnet and all the LPG pipes were coated in white, fearing the worst I closed the bonnet (actually had to get moving) drove home tonight, it coughed once or twice then drove normally, on arrival opened bonnet and not a drop of frost anywhere.

Is it coolant level correct?

Frost is the vaporiser is not getting enough coolant, I'd check the level, if ok, flush it through as there maybe a possible air block

I Take it this is fed from the normal coolant, what does vaporise look like as a general picure so I can trace the feed.  Also coolant level is ok BUT after changing the breather system the other day, I lost more coolant from the area of the bnjo connection that I though so the air lock could be a good one, it also does not do it every time so a trapped pipe maybe?

As LPG is new to me I have read up on it as much as possible, it seems I should not have started with LPG but let the engine reach operating temp, if not you will suffer symptons that i have described including frosing all components.  lesson learnt I think, would people agree with this?

Totally agree in principle, but being the Romano RIS-N system, it should be configured to automatically not allow gas to be used, until the operating temperature is reached....

I need to make a small repair to it - but I have the diagnostic lead and software kit here capable of checking, and if needsbe, adjusting this, for you.

In the meantime, don't use gas unless engine is riight up to temp. Even then - put your hand on the reducer (carefully!) and ensure it's hot - and that the coolant level is correct...

Well problem solved it was wait for it ME never having anything to do with LPG and no one to tell me I just thought it switch as needed, now I have learned get car to working temp then switch.  Took it out tonight nice long run and spot on.  Embaressed but this is how we learn.

Many LPG system switches automatically once the coolant temp is right, mine actually has a pressure sensor and switches when the gas pressure (a function of vaporisor temperature) is correct. I therefore never switch it off or on ... the switch lives at LPG, the car starts on petrol and switches over when ready ... seeemples

I wonder if your system can be software configured to change either on temperature or pressure Would make life far easier if it could.

Important point .... mine switches well before the temperature gauge moves, as that is "outside" the engine/vaporisor loop .... so a bit of "trial and error" will allow you to find the best time to switch .... from a cold start mine is abot 1/2 a mile in summer and a max of 1 1/2 miles in winter .. and that is from a really cold and frosty start, not seen any of them yet ...

Absolutely Bob. First install i did on my car went almost perfectly, mostly because of the good teachers on here.

Second install had some minor issues with unknown kit parts and a couple of faults i had introduced.

I learnt on the first install. But learned so much ,more on the second.

Mistakes are how we learn.

We're all learning here. .   ...imo.

Iirc mine is set to swith to gas after 40 seconds is passed, provided a certain temp. is reached. For the life of me cant remember exactly what though... 40c coolant temp...?

Also should add, if the lpg industry make them available, which they dont always, with a diag lead and software installed on a lap top these settings should be easy to adjust yourself in ecu parameters. Its a 30 second job.

thats the same thats happening on our lpg. same system. coughs & barks like a good un 1st thing in the morning.
