Don't be tempted to buy your replacement cam sensor from anywhere except a Vauxhall dealership.  A number of online sources will attempt to mislead you into believing that they provide genuine sensors.  AFAIK the only mail-order supplier of genuine new Vx cam sensors will be andyc, a member on here who works at a Vx dealership. He'll also give you a good price.

Just to add to this, I'm pretty sure it's your cam sensor starting to go as I had exactly the same problems.  I found that by unplugging it and cleaning the connectors with some spray contact cleaner sorted it for a while but eventually I had to buy a new one.

I did get a pattern one, as I was slightly mislead by an online site.  It just didn't work at all when I put it in.  I sent it back and got a refund, then ordered a genuine one from andyc.  I've no similar problems since (plenty of dissimilar problems though!).  :)
