Hi Guys can I call on your help again, i have a 1998 Omega 3L V6 on checking the water and oil this morning I have found that the water res has loads of oil in it and i white discharge around the top of the filler cap, the oil filler has caramel residue around the cap. So I guess the head gasket has gone, I do about 600 miles from Gillingham Kent to London everyweek and need my car, is there anyone out there in the kent area that can raplace the gasket anytime soon and give me some idea of the Price ??

Oil cooler

On the upside, oil cooler is easier and probably a little cheaper, about £150 for the parts.

Mayo on cap is most like a combination of short journeys and poor oils (Castrol GTX/Magnatec is known to do this)

Hi thanks for the reply, she had an oil change 2 weeks ago new semi synthetic uni part as well as a coolent flush, does not seem to affect the performance, I only do motorway millage nothing around town never less than 50 miles, so a little worried about taking her out at the moment.

you don't want to drive it with failed oil cooler, not too bad a job, not too expensive if you DIY

The reason the oil cooler is being blamed is that it is an oil/water heat exchanger in the middle of the Vee, not an oil/air one as you might expect.  Once you've got the clutter off the top, it can be quite easy to replace - assuming you have some mechanical knowledge.  A flush-out might have imploded the oil cooler at a weak point especially if too much pressure was used.

And you say "head gasket".  I presume you know there are two?  And they're not renowned for blowing on this engine.
