Boot - Spare wheel size / storage
« on: 13 December 2011, 15:50:58 »

Can anyone please advise whether a 17 inch alloy with (235/45/17) tyre fitted will fit into the Omega spare wheel boot storage compartment area ?

thanks

Thanks Tunnie for quick answer...... so if I get a flat tyre/puncture and have 17inch fitted, what problems will happen when I fit a 15 inch to one side of axle and 17 inch still on the other with auto gearbox model....any damage likely??

thanks

Not for short distances, get you home type measure. Its not something you want to leave on there for a lot of miles, cannot see any harm in driving to tyre fitter  :)

Had same issue myself when had a puncture on our 3.0 Elite Estate, boot full of stuff really did not help!

It's not the rim size that's the problem, it's the width ie a 235 won't fit but the 205 spare does. You can fit what ever rim size you wanted as long as it was narrow enough to fit upright in its storage well. Vauxhall probably just have/had access to millions of steel 15" rims, The Senator & Carlton had the same steel rim in their boot.  ;)

Get your 15" spare out of the boot & place it along side the 17"s on the car. you'll find there's not a lot of difference. The 17s have a 45% profile whereas your steel spare will have a 60/65% profile tyre, ie they'll both have a very similar rolling diameter. The ugly black spare will make you change back to youe 17" alloys ASAP anyway.  ;) ;)
