which sat nav?

gonna buy the other half a sat nav as part of her christmas as we are always having to borrow someones whenever we go somewhere, question is which one should i go for?
if i can get one for between 50-80quid that would be ideal. any recommendations?

i use garmin but have to pay for a one time update, tom tom are prettygood now and no charge for updating, halfrauds have £20 off the tomtom XL Western Europe Classic Sat Nav £99.99

Halfords are currently selling Garmins with lifetime map updates (upto 4 a year) I think the price start at about £129.00 though.


Oh yes and that is western europe maps aswell if going abroad.

Been happy enough with my tom tom, its pretty old now 520itunes edition or something, been dropped a million times, only now doesnt hold charge very well.

Screwfix are currently knocking an extra £30 off this one at the checkout, bringing it down to under £80 if you want a good basic model:

No lane pictures, no traffic awareness, just basic navigation but I find Garmin are OK.

Of all the useless portable units, I'd go for Tom Tom every time for relability, usability, and performance.

Had an email flyer earlier, might have been Hellfrauds, £79 for UK & ROI

If around £50 is your budget then you won't go far wrong with a MyGuide.
It's a no nonsense 'does what it says on the box' unit that I've borrowed off a mate a couple of times. Took me from Swansea to Newcastle and around the NE for a few days without a glitch.
