Does anybody know if Miggys are underestimated in the book performance figures?

I believe that Ford often understimate the performance of their cars in the official manufacturer's specs (possibly to acheive lower insurance group ratings?) as I've been told by three different employees (one of them my dad) and even managed to confirm it myself - I used to have a V plate 2000MY Mondeo ST24 hatch (manual) with a book figure for 0-60 of 8.4s.

A mate has a G-Tech meter which is supposedly accurate to 1/10s and over four runs (on private land!) I managed a time of 6.91s with 1/4 mile 15.13s @ 93mph!!

I wonder if Vx have ever done the same?

Do any of you have a G-Tech and have you timed a Miggy? I intend to do so with mine this year but not before cam belt & major service.

Would anybody be interested in me bringing the device to a (Southern) meet if I can get him to loan it to me? You just need a piece of road suitable to do the runs on, obviously it should be on private land to avoid breaking the speed limit and risking public safety if you are going to do the quarter mile run. Disused airfield?

I don't know about being underestimated but I've got an AP22 and it's certainly possible to get "book" figures for my 3.2 MV6 without giving it any abuse at all, so I'm guessing if one adopted a "motor journalist" driving style they could probably be beaten.

You have to be a bit careful with G-meters, though, because they have to be calibrated to cope with factors such as the suspension squat as the car pulls away.

I'm surprised an ST24 can get down into the 6's  :o

Not more surprised than me!!! I knew it was quick but that's 911 territory! I did wonder about the accuracy of the G-Tech but even with the suspension squat factor, you're only talking a few tenths of a second difference at most. Maybe a 7.2 or .3 is more realistic. I was handy at getting through the gears quickly though. You could say I've had plenty of practise over the years though I'm not a professional driver or anything like that. Not illegal activities either, just had opportunities to have fun in safe environments and done a few driver courses etc. :P

I dunno , but I had a huge grin on my face when I (narrowly) out dragged a Porsche Cayenne up to about *naughty but not quite 3 figures(you get 5p change) * away from the Handy cross roundabout heading down the A404 towards Marlow/maidenhead....

and yes, he WAS trying.... :D

(That's in the current Elite Estate BTW)

personally I reckon he must have been running on 2 star , and missing on half the pots,   based on the numbers game, but , it did feel VERY good...    and he wasn't happy about it !  (when I saw him in the Pub later....    )
