Hi all,

sorry to be bugging you all with questions and stuff all the time.....

If I get a 2.0 16v Auto with LPG, I know that a pre-March 2001 car will be PLG road tax, and you get no discount on it for having gas fitted, but whats the SP with cars that are taxed by their CO2 emissions?  Are they cheaper to tax with gas then a PLG one?

I dont like paying more then I have too (who does?), so it might influence whether I go for an older one, or stretch the budget for a later one.

I'm not sure of the exact amount but if you notified dvla of the LPG conversion and it was on the v5 then I think you save about a tenner a year

hmmmmmmmm..... just looked up on one website, it says that a 2.2 Auto Omega is band K road tax and is £245 a year - thats alot more then PLG (£215 I think), so I guess I'll be getting an older one then!!

Now, my calculations for a post March 2001 2.2 LPG car is :  Band K,  £250

for a Pre March 2001 it is £215

so a massive £35 difference ( less than a tank of fuel of any type !!)

If he says yes, its a good motor.

If its mechanically sound and the cambelt has been changed in the last 4 years, its worth that imo. Although cambelt change on 4 pot is a much cheaper job then the V6 anyway,so maybe not such a critical bargaining point.
I dont think its worth an awful lot more than the start price though tbh,although others may think different tbh.
Will also be a bit underpowered imo,but it depends on your expectations really.

the belts were done at 102k, and its done 116k, so they should be ok for a bit?

I'm used to an 82bhp Astra TD/Cavalier TD, if I want performance I either jump in the De or the Avantime (165hp/245hp respectively) 

I just need a big family load lugger for pottering about and family holidays - much as I'd love another V6 on the drive, I cant realistically justify it for the mileage and journeys I do.

I've asked the seller for some more info - according to DVLA its got tax on it until the end of April, so thats summat

I would take his mileage on £20 worth of gas with a massive pinch of salt Claire! You can reasonably expect around 115 -120miles per £20 provided you're not carrying full loads or have a heavy right foot.

I'm running a 3.2 V6 on LPG, and that includes a LOT of towing, over the last 3 years 8 months the average cost per mile on LPG is presently 16.15 ppm so for me, from my normal suppliers (73.92 p/ltr) £20 of LPG gets me 124 miles - when I first had the conversion done LPG was 54 p/ltr so £20 got me a fair bit more !!

Obviously on a long gentle ( ) run it is better, I can furnish individual trip details if asked ..

IMHO "pence per mile" is the only true way to compare fuel costs.

My 2.5 V6 costs 20p per mile on gas at 79.9pl, driven gently. Seems to vary a lot tbh.
The belt is well within service interval as far as mileage goes,but it needs changing every 4 years regardless of mileage. In my experience a lot of ebay sellers are reluctant to state the date of belt / tensioners being changed,presumably because it was more than 4 years ago.

Our Avantime (3.0 V6 Auto), does around 200-225 on a full tank (49L) of LPG, which we buy locally for 67p a litre (Asda, local garage or Shell).

I'm expecting a 2.0 16v Omega to do better then that - I know it wont be masses better, but as Avi only does around 20-25mpg, I need something a bit more economical as a daily hoofer abouter    I love driving Avi, but its a shame to get her mucked up using her every day, she was bought new in 2002, still has low mileage, and we try and keep her for shows and special occasions now.

What sort of job is the cambelt on an Ecowreck engine?

ive got a v6 elite estate and it gets about 270-300 miles on tank of gas,(50lts) but also got a vectra 2.0 sri on gas too, this only manages around 350 depending how hard i drive it, this has a 50lt tank too

IMO the V6 timing belt is easier to change than the 2.0 ecowrecks, theres no locking kit for the 2.0 so you have to piss about turning the camshafts if they're slightly off the timing marks, so that usually means pissing about with a torx bit getting it one way then the other way just over the cam lobe on one cylinder then you have to get the tensioner to actually work right, i did it the first time and drove it and the belt slipped a tooth or two, where-as the v6, you just rag the bagpipes out(after removing the nuts ofcourse), take the stupid a/c pipe off, take the aux belt off after loosening tensioner pulley and water pump pulley dish thing, take the wiring plank thing off after breaking the clips,take the timing belt cover off, maul it with a v6 locking kit then repeatedly attack it with ring spanners after swapping the idlers over
