We have always used 'More Than' never claimed for anything as most small things cost less than the excess, I estimate we have paid getting on for £3.5k in premiums, makes you wonder......... :-\ :-\ :-\

That said, we also have a cat, not insured and cost a fortune in vets bills with 2 accidents... ::) ::)

I went with Marks and spencer at £12 a month, covered for life as opposed to a 12 month period. I think we can claim up to £7000 a year.

Most companies won't insure dogs over seven years of age. They much prefer to insure fit young animals who are far less likely to  need expensive treatment. Profit is God in the pet insurance business.

Agreed. Far better to put the money in a bank or building society. If your hound or moggy stays fit and healthy you can spend the money on a new car or holiday..... ;D ;D ;D ;)

Our black Labrador was 10 years old in August. When he reached eight years old the Premium with Pet Plan was quoted at £48 per month. So we moved to Tesco insurance, who quoted £27 per month.
This year they quoted £40 per month with reduced benefits. So for the first time we do not have pet insurance! :(
We should have listened to the dog breeder, who stated 'Only insure him for the first year, any problems will show up in that time, then stop it altogether'.

PS We have decided if our dog needs any urgent treatment we will take the hit and pay what is required.
I did suggest to SWMBO that new Labradors only cost £400, so if ours becomes ill..............................I must learn to engage my tiny mind before engaging mouth!! It looks as though Christmas nuptials could be somewhat curtailed  :'( :'(

PPS On a brighter note I have just finished a 6 month contract in the City and I now have 3 weeks off, so I may be engaging in excesses of alcohol and unhealthy food :y :y :y :) :)

My staffie is coming up to nine now and i don't pay insurance as when she was two she was diagnosed with bad rear leg joints and will soon need a major op so i couldn't get her insured. well seven years later no ops she walks fine and has never seen the vet since.
So i leave it to chance having saved on seven years insurance, The reason for being two when i took her to the vets is i wanted her checking over as i had just got her from the sbt rescue and may i say we have had seven great years with her so far what a loyal and loving friend she is.

That's the problem we have, after 10 years, If I stopped the payments something would go wrong, she did run into the side of a moving car once but was fine, thankfully,.....think we paid around £400 this year, keeps going up and been paying since day one...... ::) :-\ :-\

One thing to note is the level of cover. Some of the cheaper premiums will have a limit on the pay out the insurance companys will make for any one ailment. Also they may implement a time limit for cover, and not cover the same illness for following years, which is pretty useless if you pet needs long term vet care. Read the small print way it up and make your decision on balance
