Engine temp low/poor tick over from starting
« on: 22 December 2011, 14:02:09 »

Hi
Has anyone come across these problems? They seem very minor but are now begining to become a pain.

Problem 1; Car starts 1st time and then revs drop and just before cutting out will pick up again this happens often over a couple of minutes then settles to a nice even tick over.

Problem 2; Temp of engine fails to get above 40 on gauge (could this be thermostat)
problem 3; Engine managment light comes on intermittently with no adverse effects on car speed etc etc....
petrol engine 2.2 cdi, Engine Y22XE

Tried Paper clip test but no pin 6 so unable to do this

Regards Rob

1) could be an air leak or similar, or a dodgey idle valve.

2) quite likely the stat

3) I'm not far from you, happy to do a code read / live data output :y

Ah, just noticed it's a tractor... no 1 could be failing glow plus(s) ;) especially if it only does it from a cold start

1). Clean breathers and throttle body. No idle control valve on 2.2
2). Possibly stat or the connector for temp gauge dislodged at rear of engine. Let engine idle, if top hose gets progressively hotter, stat knackered. If hose stays cold then suddenly warms up, stat`s OK.
3)"Spanner" light or "engine" symbol light?
