The alton garage sounds like a plan. means i wouldnt have to worry about the weather prospects on the day.  and its only 30 miles away. its it your place?

james has already offered to help me convert it. and i offered to help him convert his new motor(when he gets it)

We did James' current car in the garage here. 3 of us got it done in a weekend although the tank was already mounted. It's just a bit easier when you're out of the weather and have heat, light & beer. Oh, and Mrs. KW's superb cooking. :-*

Am having renewed thoughts about doing my 3.2 as well, as it looks like my road tax is going through the roof. :'(

this is cheeper if your converted. the extra cost would be having the conversion checked over for a certificate. i think.

tell me about it!

i think i need to sell it to him some more.

something like:

i have been told its worthwhile doing even with the funds coming out of my overdraft. it can be fitted over a weekend no matter what the weather is like as kevin and his wife have offered for us to use his garage to complete the conversion, they have even offered to feed me too. ;D ;D and james has offered to guide me through the fitting of the system.

you cant get any better unless i let some mupet in a garage do it and pay their labour charge (i would never do.....)

talkin about hubby wonder where he has got to? and he cant be down the pub as he has our son with him to.

If you can personally afford it then It's a good idea for the car.

I cant see a 4 pot being difficult at all.

I would take Kev up on his kind offer... he has also offered to assist with my new conversion, so it would be worthwhile to work together possibly on them all - including Kevs (which I intend to keep bending his ear until he does ;D )

As before, there is no labour charge from me whatsoever, it's not what the forum is about :y

I don't think we'll do three in a weekend - it's not difficult, but it IS fiddly and time consuming :)

to let me convert my motor to LPG?

he likes the idea and is up for it but is a bit slow in giving me the go ahead. All because i said that i would payfor it using my overdraft. Whats wrong with that?

This coversion would be done with the help from the master (as i call him) James.

The kit i am looking at is :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330219252922&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014
they are only round the corner from me too.

the cost of this kit would be recouped by the savings in fuel on the mileage we have planned this year. the only thing we wont have covered is price of the tank. (hubby wants a spare wheel one, i agree) oh and James labour charge  ;D ;D ;D ;D

so ok how do i convince my hubby or do i just do it?
WE ALL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RED AND NORMAL DIESEL, RED IS CHEAPER BECAUSE IT IS NOT FOR ROAD USE AND CARRIES LESS TAXATION.
Now, a pal of mine has converted his volvo to LPG. He works in a factory which has LPG forklifts whizzing around. He reckons that the LPG in the special bottles for the forklifts is the same as Red diesel, i.e. attracts less duty as it is not for road use. He has bought a hand operated pump and fills his car from a foklift bottle once a week, remembering to lie the bottle down and keep the arrow painted on the bottom of the bottle pointing downwards - this is the liquid pick up point.According to him it is half the price of retail LPG and works fine. The pump was £60 + vat. Don't know how much or what amount the bottles contain, he seems happy about it, and it is proper autogas and not the stuff for heaters and bbq's. Any thoughts?

Marie,

Yes i did my conversion myself, hence the mistakes,  >:(

the suggestion that theowletman came up with has been talked about......and can be done without any issue as an LPG tank cannot be dipped (it is under pressure)
The only thing to remember is to filter the LPG as part of the pumping process
