Calibrated Windyguns.
« on: 17 March 2008, 17:32:53 »

Just had a puncture in the works van, as we don't carry a spare it was ATS to the rescue.
On returning to the depot I read the paperwork to find the tyre fitting ape had signed to say he had torqued the wheelnuts to 160 Nm, but he only used the windygun so either;
A, ATS have calibrated impact wrenches on their service vehicles.
B, The lying muppet just did it up to max torque and called it a day.

Why do these companies employ such rather knuckle draggers?

rather idiots they are, the daughters boyfriend took to have his new alloys balanced again, he went to ATS.

I changed his pads and discs yesterday, i had to use an 18" extension bar to remove the studs, they should only be done up to 90Nm, these rather dic"heads dont understand that doing them up this tight does more harm than good.

Impact wrench set to max torque and its easy to do Pete.
Aparently from todays proceedings 4 clicks of the clutch is 160Nm.

A windy wrench is never going to give a calibrated torque setting no matter what they say. It's very disturbing that they didn't at least check it with a torque wrench afterwards, even if they were, as usual, only confirming that they had tightened it to at least the safe torque setting.

If he'd picked up a worn wrench or the air pressure was low it could have only given you 50 lb.ft. :o

I'd go out and check the torque if I were you.

This herbert was from their Heap Bridge depot according to the paperwork, looks like his colleagues are trained to a similar standard at your local one.
