Radiator
« on: 29 December 2011, 14:20:12 »

Hi, just had a look at the how to on rad removal / condenser .... i need to remove just the radiator and the how to says remove the trumpets to the plenum . Question is do these have to come off , looking at the rad it looks like it should clear the plenums although if the fan is coming out with the rad it could be tight ? Just asking as i have not started the job yet , lining up what i will need to do first.

Many thanks  :y

As with most jobs on an Omega, the better working access you have to the part the easier the job will be and the less chance you have of breaking something due to needing to struggle to get a spanner/socket onto something.

Moral of most jobs is "clear the decks"then the job eill go correctly and take no more time than trying to struggle. :y

On the left of the radiator as you look at it you will see two metal banjo unions, follow these down to two rubber pipes, these contain automatic transmission fluid (atf cooler in rad). Disconnect these at the rubber pipes and plug them with suitable bolts, hardly any fluid came out when I did it.

In that quote "transmission fluid" ?? Whats all that about ?? Auto trans fluid cooler in rad ?? So its a multi function rad that cools the auto box as well .

Very difficult to get out without removing front trumpets  ;)

On first look i seen the banjo bolts an thought well they look like air con connections which would be strange ...then a quick look at the how to and some info back put me right  ;D

Personally if you're swapping the radiator, I undo the 2 banjo unions from the rad as you'll have to remove 'em to swap to the new one.  Just need to take care in replacing the 2 seals per banjo.

I've always reused old ones without problems - just make sure you retrieve all 4!
